Has peter molyneux ever been sued? He is the biggest offender of this type of behaviour.

I'd argue that Molyneux has never gone quite so far as Hello Games did, with the exception of Godus. Still, I'd be surprised if he or Lionhead hasn't been sued in the past for all the shit he's pulled over the years.

Yeah, he never promised anything like trees growing in real time and NPCs spawning off spring or your main character being able to have a child you can then play as if your character died in Fable.  Oh wait...

Molyneux is the original false advertising charlatan. And whereas with Hello Games they seemed over excited and over reaching, Molyneux's behavior is a well documented cycle, a sham he's been running AT LEAST since Black and White.  And while Hello Games has mostly just sat quiet, Molyenux will actively blame others for the problems.  He even tried to say Kickstarter MADE HIM LIE with Godus.

Randy Pitchford and Gearbox/Sega did get sued for Aliens: Colonial Marines.

They were sued, they were not ever investigated by a regulating body.  It should not take a massive class action to expose the kind of unadulterated BS that Colonial Marines were doing, the false advertising was painfully cut and dry.  And they are still freaknig doing it.  Also, Pitchord weasled his way out of that lawsuit.

This game was heavily misadvertised. Im saying this as a day one owner of this game. And yes i paid full price. I brought it in believing i could fly with friends.. what a load of sh#*

I agree , I think there was foul play by Hello Games.
I don't buy games for the hype, since I don't preorder, but what they did with no man sky is outright lie, even after the game had gone gold.

Exactly. I remember there was going to be a classaction lawsuit against Bethesda for the shambles that was F3, NV and Skyrim on PS3. Never actually happened obviously.

Well that would be a stupid lawsuit, there's nothing lawsuit worthy there, just poorly executed port jobs.  They didn't falsely advertise.  Colonial Marines, No Man's Sky, Rome II Total War, and other such games outright, blatantly lied in their marketing material with bullshots and missing prominent features, fake gameplay, and misleading terminology.   Honestly, while I agree BethSoft deserves criticism for those problems, the fact people treat them as being as bad as EA, Ubi, WB, and Konami at times is just plain laughable and sad.  Bethesda makes mistakes, those others do borderline (or even outright) illegal stuff in ther gross pursuit of more money and preorders.

I don't think they're as bad as the others you listed. Not in the case of false advertising anyway. They are definitely bad at supplying a working product though.

But I do think as consumers we need protection from your example, but also from my example (performace issues). So the PS3 versions included everything written on the box but the ports were so bad you could barely play them in some cases (my experience wasn't that bad but it turned into a slideshow presentation after a couple of hours). If you buy a car and it has all the bells and whistles but breaks down every two hours you'd be expecting to be able to take it back and get a car you can drive.

I still don't understand all this "false advertising" stuff people keep talking about. Planets are randomly generated, and not everything in randomness is interesting. As far as I can tell, the only truly misleading bit was about multiplayer.

Thing is, in the UK, such laws don't just apply to "advertising", they apply to all "marketing" which is why Hello Games could be found culpable even if interviews and the like were not put out as direct advertisements.
Tarmack broke it down pretty well over on Youtube.
It's about time the games industry got a good kick up the arse for this sort of thing, but it's a shame Hello Games will have to be the one to be made an example, not that it isn't deserved in some capacity.

But you do have a recourse for that.  It's called refunds.  And you also have protection, reviews.  False advertising is more than just something we need protection from (cause you can still get a refund and all that), it's technically illegal and should be stopped.  And whereas a poor port job harms a game, this false advertising hype-mongering has repercusions for the whole industry as big publishers cash in the trust of customers to make a quick buck on preorders, systematically eroding consumer confidence.

And I would say at least Bethesda owns up to it and at least they have been trying and improving over the years, something that cannot be said for WB (hellow Batman Arkham Knight), EA (hellow Sim City), or Ubi (Hello AC Unity).

good, to bad its for a small company. $ony should get the heat and s. murry too.
