Forums - Sony Discussion - Persona 4 Golden - A Progress Thread

My P4G gaming is finally underway, but I can't say "well underway" because of life's priorites.  This why I created this thread.  It's helped me push through DanganRonpa so maybe it would also help me push through P4G as well.

Now, I'm not far into the game whatsoever.  I've only unleased the first persona so far, but this is my second time starting the game.  The first time I went as far as unleashing Yukiko's persona.  That's been a while so I figured I'd start over again.  Hopefully, I'll play a little here and there like watching an episode a day from a tv series on Netflix.  I've also watched the anime just past recruiting Kanji into the team.  I'd stopped watching to prevent spoiling much of the game as you would have probably guessed.

Wish me luck not so much in playing the game but more so being able to play the game.  :)  Comment as you feel led.

This is the second thread you have made today, and the second time I have commented that I have not followed through on a game. Odd, since bailing on games is a rare occurrence for me....I have not played since early July. I feel like I've moved on, and may never get back to it. Hope I'm wrong. Good luck to you though.

Persona 4 Golden quickly became one of my favorite games of all time even if I would have wished some things were there but aren't. I can't complain though after all the hours of fun I had with it.

Hope you get farther and eventually finish it!

Good luck.

It's a terrible feeling when you leave games unfinished, especially rpg's. I've had few games which haunted me over 10 years for not completing them. P4G is a long game, if you don't play regularly the risk of bailout is really high.

I cannot imagine toilet-free life.

Kebabs have a unique attribute compared to other consumables. To unlock this effect you need to wolf down a big ass kebab really fast, like under 10 minutes or so and wait for the effect to kick in. If done correctly your movements should feel unbelievably heavy to the point where you literally cannot move at all.

Good luck! It should be really easy to play after a while...

I gave up on the game after a few hours in because it was boring. I forced myself months later to take only this game on vacation in order to do it quickly and reduce my backlog. Once I passed the (long) intro, I played more or less 70 hours in 5 days, I just couldn't stop playing.

This game has a difficult beginning and it's pretty common to see players giving up or complaning about it during the first hours, but it's really worth it, don't worry (it's still my favorite game, didn't start P5 yet).

Ok. So I found out that I lied. The first time I played P4G I stopped right after rescuing Chie like I did last night, not when unleashing Yukiko's persona. So that's where I'm at. Anyway...

What I was reminded of was that the "Guard" option in battle is more useful than most turned-based rpgs I've played. Most "guard/defend" options I've come across only prolongs the defending characters death because he isn't attacking while defending, and he's still taking damage just less of it. In Persona 4 Golden, it actually helps prevent status effects and being knocked down when a hit by an elemental attack that the character is weak against. It's a fair balance of offense and defense planning. Turned-based rpgs would get a better rep over action-based rpgs if similar battle mechanics were employed.

I would've played 3 first. I'm playing the Japanese version of 5 now and I don't think I could ever play 3 or 4 again. Still gonna force myself to do the Snow Queen Quest on 1 since I haven't, so I'll be back on that.

I played P3 FES a while back.  It was great.

That game is in my top 5 (I like it more than 4 honestly, and narrativewise it's better than 5 even though 5 is overall better).  I loved it too.  The boss battles make the playthroughs worth it for me even though the game is hard to go back to.

Currently, I'm on April 20th, and I have yet to rescue Yukiko. Just joined the basketball team. We'll get to Yukiko soon.
