Forums - Nintendo Discussion - cycycychris reviews: Yoshi Woolly World (Wii U)

The game is fun, but it isn't as fun as the other ones.

Wooly world is a game you play after being stressed out just to relax and unwind.

Play yoshi's island ds or n64 if you want a better challenge

I love the art style. A world made of yarn, and its cute.  Its not a must have game though, its easily something you can skip.

If you want more challenge you should play a differnt platformer,.... like DKC Tropical Freeze.

Thats actually the game I'm playing right now, miles better than Yoshi.

Keep in mind the targeted audience and atmosphere of the game varies greatly.

Yoshi wooly world obviously wasn't meant to be difficult. Just looking at the art style makes it easy to see that it's meant to be a fun platformer  for kids or adults who want to enjoy the beautiful style.

Anyways, I haven't played tropical freeze yet. I probably will soon. HD donkey Kong sounds amazing

Wow. What a hater.

That review is basically written from the point of view that Yoshi's Island is not a Mario game despite being called Super Mario World 2. Indeed, it's less about challenging platforming than it is about collecting things (although collecting everything requires challenging platforming). If all you do is finish the levels without going out of your way, it's going to be boring. The special levels are a different story, but you won't unlock them if you don't collect stuff. Likewise, the difficulty of the boss battles isn't about surviving, it's about getting the job done without getting hit at all; there's also a boss challenge after you've beaten the game where the bosses move at twice the speed and you start with low health.

uhhh. more like you are the hater. I find OPs review quite subjective, and well written.

Your comment/points on the other hand....

The game gets way more interesting and challenging with the Yarn Yoshi amiibo in play. You're basically controlling 2 yoshis at once and you'll find yourself alternating between the two as your main. Kind of like DKC's buddy system, but a little more complex because the two Yoshis will separate.

Like you, I do tend to prefer platformers that'll allow 100% speedrun at a pretty rapid clip. Given the large number of collectables in the game and the pace of the levels - that really can't be done in YWW. But I do think this game is slower paced for a reason.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

Woolly World's art style is gorgeous, but as a whole I was a tad disappointed with it. It's not that it's bad, its just nothing special outside of its visuals and a few cool levels like the haunted house and riding curtains through the jungle. A 7/10 in my book.

Great review

Graphics are definitely amazing but gameplay isn't anything really special

The audiences of the games are certainly different, but even taking that into consideration, I couldn't find a gem with in Yoshi.

DK is only $20 now, you should give it a try, its really fun in multiplayer.

I've been wanting it since it was announced. for some reason, I never got it.

If you have any fondness at all for platformers, Tropical Freeze is a must play.

I've been planning for too long.

I don't know why I do that. There are times where I really want to play a game but don't buy it for no reason in particular. I loved Country Returns, and will probably download tropical freeze whenever I possibly can
