Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Does the general public know about the Wii U System yet?

Nope. Worst part is that Nintendo did it to themselves. Call the thing Wii 2, give it a different shape from Wii, and everything is fixed. Nintendo tried to be too clever and it went over everyones head.

So why are every group of people except gamers a part of the general public?

You said gamers make up a large chunk of the public, it's only really US and Japan where gamers make up a significant percentage of the public most other countries gamers a niche group tbh. General public in the context of the OP are the significant number of people you'll see everyday I know full on most of the 70m+ people in UK aren't gamers only around what probably 3-4m spread out across the country are and in many countries it's the same, that's a small percentage and not a large chunk like you said.

They are a big part of it. Consoles, handhelds, mobiles, PC etc. Theres more than 4M in the UK.

Wii U is currently as well known as the NX. Maybe a little more.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

The general public does not know or care about any console.

They may not care but they know of it. They may not know the PS4 or Xbox One is the fourth or third console of the brand, but they know these systems are different than the PS3 and Xbox 360 from last generation.

Nope.

Nope.

Not every gamer bought a PS4/XboxOne as a present though.

At any rate, more of them know its different than the Wii U is differen than the Wii which is what this thread is about anyway.

So, your thread is about console/handheld gamers, not about the whole general public as the title indicates. In this case the thread is redundant as this subset of the general public knows about the Wii U.

People know about it, they just don't want it. It's not that compelling of a product and the mini-game fad fizzled out.

I had a dinner party and invited several friends over who were basically the core part of the Wii demographic (lapsed/fringe gamers). They all had a Wii, many of them waiting in line and desperately going store to store to find one during the height of its popularity circa 2007.

Well we played Nintendo Land. And NSMBU. And a couple other games.

And they had fun. Quite a bit of laughter. No problems playing the games.

But the bottom line is following up with all of them, none of them purchased the system in the long run.

The casual audience is a tricky cookie, just because you had success once, there is no guarantee it happens again.

Not exactly, I was selling some Wii U games, and people calling me and I need to explain and inform them that game I selling are not for Wii, that they are for newer and last Nintendo console released, they were first time hearing about that "Wii U". Also I selling PS4 games, and sometime I talk with customers about consoles and games, and some of them never heard about Wii U but they know what Wii is.

Really, I always saying, single biggest Nintendo Wii U mistake is terrible and misunderstood marketing and naming.

Some of them have heard about it, but have forgotten or simply ignored it (very low intrest if any).
Others legit seem to not even know.

NX needs a new brand, dont call it Wii + something, you either need to use a number, or a whole new brand name for the system. Nintendo also need to take alot of time to carefully explain what exactly the NX is, or alot of the general public will get the wrong idea.

General assumption of gaming around me:
1. PS4 - How is tlou / UC4? Dying to play it. What's the price of used PS4?
2. Xbox One - Do I need to be online to play games? Nah. I am happy with Xbox 360.
3. PC - A new humble bundle. BF4 / The Crew is free. LoL is the greatest game ever made.
4. Wii U - It's pronounced as Wii. What? Is Wii U a new sensor for Wii?
