No I don't think most cases consumers do. They all know the Wii but very few would know the Wii U was the sequel.

Tbh gamers may total a possible 100m or so consistently but I get what he's saying as 100m out of 7 billion is a very small group, gaming is a thing in the western world and Japan but once you venture outside of these regions it starts becoming a bit more limited in exposure.

OMG! Coincidence that this thread was made because I actually overheard one customer today saying that the PS4 Pro is an upgraded system of the PS4 like how the Wii did with the Wii U!!! Hahaha!! You know how Sony/MS likes to take ideas from Nintendo ;P

So why are every group of people except gamers a part of the general public?

If that was a great success they could follow it up with the Wii turn U.

You said gamers make up a large chunk of the public, it's only really US and Japan where gamers make up a significant percentage of the public most other countries gamers a niche group tbh. General public in the context of the OP are the significant number of people you'll see everyday I know full on most of the 70m+ people in UK aren't gamers only around what probably 3-4m spread out across the country are and in many countries it's the same, that's a small percentage and not a large chunk like you said.

They may not care but they know of it. They may not know the PS4 or Xbox One is the fourth or third console of the brand, but they know these systems are different than the PS3 and Xbox 360 from last generation.
