Yup, some people dont realise that after Pokemon GO was released, 3DS and Pokemon games received huge boost in sales, its very obvious that is a plan with Super Mario Run and other Nintendo mobile games.

And they will most likely wait to reveal the NX after Super Mario Run, showing off then the new Mario NX game. So 2017 ppl.

Super Mario Run is coming in December, NX reveal will most likely be in October.

Nintendo needs to do one of 2 things. Either line up and make a real machine that can stand with the twins, or make a dirt cheap system that retails for $99 (if handheld) or $199 (if console).

If they make another Wii U with no real vision then they will be in serious trouble with gamers and developers.

I mean think about it. The Xbox One is selling for $229 right now. If Nintendo won't make a console that is at least that powerful and are trying to sell a hybrid for $250, then they already lost.

This is what I was saying in the other thread.

NX needs to launch at 199$ or at most 249$.

It cant launch at 299$ and compete against the PS4/XB1 slims.

Everyone else was like "it ll launch at 299$ and be fine".

The funny thing is that by asking for a PS4-level console by Nintendo, you are basically asking for them to repeat what they did with Wii U.

Wii U wasn`t really anything like PS/Xbox though. Nintendo may have thought it was, but they were wrong.

Wii U is similar in power to PS3/360 with the same architecture and was designed to get ports. It launched with Call of Duty, FIFA, Madden, NBA 2K, Assassin's Creed, Batman, Mass Effect, Darksiders, Ninja Gaiden, Tekken.

It sold poorly because why would anybody switch from PS3/360 to Wii U to play games they can already get?

If Nintendo releases a $300-400 thats somewhere between PS4 & PS4 Pro level of power with an emphasis on getting ports, how is that any different from Wii U?

People who bought a PS4/XBO from 2013-2016 arent going to switch to a new similar console to play the same games, people in 2017 and beyond looking for a console are going to likely pick the ones with a large existing library and online community.

The only main difference would be that Wii U released 6-7 years after PS3/360 while NX is set to launch 3.5 years after PS4/XBO which may help to a slight degree.

Has anyone see this pic yet?

Probably fake... or just a early proto type.

You said it yourself, the Pokemon Go craze resurfaced the Pokemon IP. If Nintendo waits after Super Mario Run to see if that also becomes a hit, with Mario on the news, etc... What better situation than to announce the new console then? You follow this train of thought, right?

First NX is incomparable more important for Nintendo than Super Mario Run, they will not hold back reveal of NX until December just because of Super Mario Run. Second Super Mario Run won't have effect on NX until NX arrives in March, so there is zero sense to wait first Super Mario Run launch and then reveal NX.

Stupid question but why is the link on the screen running if he isn't moving the dpad or the slide pad?

Yeah, it's not the best but it's better than the Vita, its main competition. And my mistake, Japanese 3rd party support is decent on 3DS not western. And yes, 3rd party games sold fairly well on Wii because of what Wii accomplished. Of the top 15 best selling games, 7 of them are Nintendo Wii games, made by Nintendo and each is over 20 million. People buy Nintendo consoles mainly for Nintendo games.

And as I like to say, if your game isn't fun, it won't sell. Nintendo knows this. Mario Kart 8 has over a 50% attachment rate on Wii U. It's a great game. So Nintendo's issue isn't that it doesn't make fun games. Its issue isn't even the fact that it makes underpowered hardware. The issue is the pricing of said underpowered hardware. You know you're going to get quality games made by Nintendo. But if you're paying too much for an underpowered console, that's where the issue is. DS was far less powerful than vita, but it was cheaper and thus far more accessible. I think the marketing and price killed the Wii U.

I believe Nintendo will make sure to make the NX a fair price while offering a decent power output and amazing games, and that's a great spot to be in.

I don't think it has better 3rd party support than the Vita.

The 3DS has 943 games currently while the Vita has 1354 games.

Wiki list is not accuracy, i have 3ds and own a lot of games for it. That list lack quite a lot, mostly are japannese games though. Vita list is not accuracy either, there are some games get cancelled but still on that list. And i think he mean sales, not third party

I insist the vary opposite. Playstation and Xbox have become basically an arbitrary divide in what is essentially a standardised format for console games, and considering how annoying it is that there are even two of them to pick from, I just don't think there's room for Nintendo in that precise market anymore.
I think if the NX is to do well, it needs to do something neither Sony nor Microsoft are doing.
But that's not the only challenge, it need to do that, while also not being totally stupid and gimmicky. It's a tough balance, but if anyone can stumble upon a winning idea, it's Nintendo.

It's a very good & difficult question, Wii sales was a success but Wii U wasn't, so... I think be different it's cool with a balance of casual (Nintedo's mobile games? no way!) & hardcore* games (Super Mario Galaxy 3 now!), and i think it's very important the 3rd partys support. Games are the most important in my opinion.
