Forums - Gaming Discussion - 2016: Worst year of gaming EVER?

Persona 5 is the best JRPG I've played since Xenogears and FFXV is coming out in November so I'm pretty content. This year might be lame for non-JRPG fans though.

Nah, it's been slow, but not the worst. I think it just feels worse because it's coming off 2015, which was imo a ridiculously stellar year for gaming.

2014 was terrible.
This has been a pretty good year and will only get better this holiday. 2017 is looking be stellar aswell

There's only 2 races: White and 'Political Agenda'
2 Genders: Male and 'Political Agenda'
2 Hairstyles for female characters: Long and 'Political Agenda'
2 Sexualities: Straight and 'Political Agenda'

Uncharted 4 and Ratchet&Clank for PS4 are the highlights of the year 2016.

But: The Last Guardian, Final Fantasy 15 and Gravity Rush 2 are coming in november-december : )

Yes. And some good games here and there won't change that. After all, we're talking about a full year.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

  1. Microtransactions in games like Overwatch, Deus Ex, etc.
There have been lots of games with microtransactions. Everything in Overwatch is free, just gotta grind for it. If anything, you're complaining about the wrong thing here. Gamers bitched like crazy when games like Titanfall or Evolve launched at $60 as "MP only" games but were more than happy to hype up Overwatch, even at the expense of other quality games, like Battleborn. So complain about fickle, whiny gamers and their double standards here, don't complain about shady microtransactions.
  2. Not a single Xbox One exclusive release
If you see games like Horizon 3, Quantum Break, ReCore, Killer Instinct, etc (just games released thus far in 2016) and think less of them because you can also play them on PC then no offense but your logic is flawed. If you already own the console then there is literally 0 reason to care if a game is exclusive or not. It's not a negative.
  3. Sony making confusing hardware plans
Disappointing plans maybe. Weak upgrade, maybe. I don't see how they are confusing though. Unless maybe you mean all the things developers can or cannot or maybe can or maybe cannot do with the extra power. In which case, I'd agree. However, MS's message about Scorpio has been no less confusing.
  4. Nintendo showcase is the most mediocre line-up for both Wii U and 3ds
Idk what the "Nintendo showcase" means but the 3DS and WiiU have both had pretty solid 2016's. Arguably the absolute only thing making the PS4/Xbone any better are strong third party games.
  5. NX rumor overexposure
I would call this excitement and passion and I would say this is a good thing.
  6. Battlefield 1 VS COD Infinite Warfare is beating a dead horse, and none of them are really bringing anything new to the table.
Most games don't bring anything new to the table. However, these big blockbuster games are what allows publishers to try the more experimental stuff that might bring something new. If EA didn't have a new Battlefield to rake in money, maybe they don't approve a new Mirror's Edge.
  7. Konami. Enough said.
Don't know enough about this to really comment. Haven't been a huge MGS fan since MGS3, and honestly idk of anything else Konami has released in... generations that I really give a shit about. But publisher controversy is nothing new. Activision had some bullshit with Infinity Ward last gen that was pretty bad.
  8. No Man's Sky shows once again hype culture is awful, but consumers sucker into hype over and over again.
I'm not blaming consumers for the NMS hype train derailing, I blame the lying liar who spread constant bullshit about his game. It's hard to blame gamers for believing a game would have certain elements or features when they were constantly fed information saying it would have them.

However, I would add that there does exist this weird second layer of gamers who are incredibly and sadly invested almost emotionally it seems into the game based on nothing but lies and they will attack anyone who doesn't share their opinion and will to this day defend Shawn and his lies.
  9. The Division is generic as hell yet sells millions. (This is more of an opinion)

The Division is a tale of two halves and is anything BUT generic. If you want a game in its genre that is generic, look at Destiny.
  10. Street Fighter V does not deliver to expectations

    Karma for their exclusive deal.
  11. Seriously... how has the industry not been burnt out by FPS games???
FPS games have always been incredibly popular. Why would people get tired of them? It's like asking why wouldn't people get tired of eating pizza. For many, even a disappointing FPS is better than other genres. You're talking about one of the most casual, popular genres there is. It would be dangerous for the industry if people stopped buying them.

Sucks to hear you haven't bought any games in 2016 (though, if you haven't bought any 2016 games, why would you think The Division is "generic"?) but I have bought more than a few and have more to buy. Battleborn and ReCore especially have been good, Horizon 3 looks amazing. I'll be buying XCom 2 as well, and we have Civ 6 coming up. Plus Titanfall 2. Great, you've made my wallet cry. Thanks.

I bought : Wii U : Twilight Princess HD
3DS : Hyrule Warriors Legends
: Fire Emblem
: Dragon Quest VII
PS4 : Uncharted 4
: Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 4
: Dark Souls 3
looking forward to buy :

Final Fantasy XV ps4
The Last Guardian

And Yes I admit it's not the best year of gaming in my life since 1986.

WORST evvaaa? Sure not for PC.

-doom
-EDF 4.1 on PC
-Fart Souls 3 on pc
-Dragons Dogma Fart Arisen on PC
-And many many more...indies like Totally Accurate Battle Sim an so on.

PC rule!

Forza horizon 3 with HDR says no. Add in gears 4, FF15, uncharted 4, ratchet and clank, doom, and more, no. One of my recent favorite years actually. Probably the best of the current gen.

This year has been a lot better than 2013 and 2014 for sure.

2014 is super underrated imo, possibly the best of this gen so far (which isn't saying much tbf but you get the point) and if 2016 surpasses it it'll be only in Japan Studio's December
