Please don't compare apples and oranges. Why do you bring the Nvidia Shield tablet all of a sudden?

The Nvidia Shield portable doesn't have a 1080p screen, it has a 720p screen at only 5 inches. And it launched at $299.

The NX will have a 6 inch screen and other upgraded components compared with the Nvidia Shield, and it will be more powerful.

$199 is unreasonable. I think you are putting up those expectations so that you can complain and declare it as a failure when the launch price is announced, but in reality you don't believe it will cost $199 at launch.

Why did I compair it? Because Nintendo is releaseing a tablet much like it, rumored to have a tegra in it much like the one in the nvidia shield, if not near identical. Because they are both gameing devices, that are portable and can hook up to a tv.

And you are wrong about the nvidia shield tablet.

It does have a 1080p screen, and its 8".

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shield_Tablet

It costs 199$ now, why cant Nintendo do one simular if the insides are likely the same?

"This is Nvidia's second portable gaming device that uses Android. Compared to the Shield Portable, the controller is not permanently connected to the screen, rather it can be purchased separately. Up to four controllers can be wirelessly connected at the same time. While the Shield tablet features an 8-inch 1920x1200 pixel display, it can output 4K resolution signal to a television via HDMI.[2]"  - wiki

But you are moving the goalposts constantly. You tried to prove the hardware is weak by talking about the Scorpion, and now you try to show the Nvidia Shield has better features by talking about the tablet all of a sudden. But the Shield Tablet doesn't include a controller (can be purchased separately).

Nintendo isn't releasing a tablet. Why don't you stick to comparing it with the Nvidia Shield Portable? The Nvidia Shield Portable has a 5 inch screen of 720p and doesn't include a docking device.

By having to pick features from a multiple of different sources and combine them into an imaginary device you have just proved that the NX can't cost only $199.

The PS4 dual shock costs like 14-15$ to make, nintendo could afford to eat such a loss on each unit sold.

Im still hopefull for a 199$ price point at launch.

If nintendo doesnt plan to compete on hardware performance, then do it with price & features. That makes sense to me.

The price point is important in all this, its one of the issues the Wii U had.

The Nvidia shield tablet has a 8" screen thats 1920x1080p.

NX haveing a 6" screen @720p for 199$ should be possible, if Nvidia can do more with their tablet, while haveing the same specs (rumors) ect.

You can also hook that up to the TV.

Nvidia manage that for 199$, while not haveing anywhere near the same prospects of recouping costs with software sales that nintendo does.

I think Nintendo could managed to hit 199$ with this, if that is their goal.

That leaves you with 3 choices:

Super high end Microsoft scorpio ~499$

Mid end PS4 pro ~399$  (maybe 349$ by the time scorpio launches)

low end NX ~199$

Something like that is what I imagine to happend.

The Shield tablet is 1080p, 8 inches, K1 GPU, and sells at $199 (with no accessories).  The NX seems like it would be costlier than that.

Can you confirm that you get an Nvidia Shield that you can connect to the TV for only $199, not having to pay anything extra?

In my prior post, I was basing the pricing off AUD out of habit, sorry.

The Shield Portable launched at $199 US. (You don't want to buy this as it's classed as Old/Obsolete now)
The Shield Tablet launched at $299, but  16 months later was "re-launched" at $200 US.
If you want the controler accessory, expect another $59 USD.
The Shield TV is at $199.

Pro and NX are going after 2 different markets. Reggie made it clear to say that. If Nintendo doesn't want to include an 8+GB graphics processor, a decent CPU, and comfortable architecture then that market that PS and XB have will never come to Nintendo consoles and I think that's what Nintendo wants. They want to go after a different and bigger market, albeit difficult to successfully court.

I believe NX will be a low cost console that is fairly powerful but with a gimmick that makes it very appealing. Nintendo's games sell the best on their consoles so as long as their games look amazing, which they will, then NX is in a realm of its own. Along with heavy Japanese 3rd party support, I'm sold.

It doesn't need to have 8Gb+ Ram.

Remember the Xbox One, Playstation 4, Playstation 4 Pro have 8Gb of Ram... But they are all also using 3Gb or more just for OS tasks.

With 6Gb of memory for example, if Nintendo has 1Gb for the OS and background tasks, it will still match the other consoles in terms of memory available for developers.
ARM is also very competitive with Jaguar in terms of performance... And is very competitive with x86 in terms of industry support.

Nothing. Nintendo has and always will do their own thing regardless of their competitors.

Nothing, cos they will compete.
Everything is pointing to a tablet-handheld hibrid, with a dock for tv.
720p, the newest chips at -500 Gflops, the controller would be part of the tablet-handheld design(even if detachable), not adding much cost. Nintendo, japanese games. And maybe mobile ones.

Doesnt seem to having nothing to do with ps4 pro, not even ps4 slim.
Unless nintendo is partnering Sony for streaming PS4 games on NX...but not happening.
