Just a rather basic thread, we've had so much speculation and rumours going around about this console for what feels like years at this stage, but one of the only things we've actually been told about it by Nintendo (it is called project NX) is not what the console will actually be called when it launches, I don't think a Nintendo console has ever held it's name from the initial idea all the way up to what was released to the public, we had the Ultra 64 (which is still advertised on the arcade version of Killer Instinct 1) rather than the N64, we had the Dolphin which became the Gamecube to launch, The Wii was known as Nintendo Revelution, Even their handhelds DS was the Nitro during developement and so on.

The thing is, what do people here predict the Next Nintendo console will actually be called when it comes to our stores shelves? Will it be similar to a previous product, will it be close to NX in some regards.

Just would be cool to see what peoples predictions would be for the System to be called and would be even cooler if someone hit the nail on the head with a very bizzarre name (I'm not sure anyone could have predicted the Wii for example before it was revealed lol.

Can give a reason behind your prediction if you want, would be cool to see the thought process.

My prediction, they're going to call it "Nintendo"

Basically if they are going to be releasing some form of Hybrid gaming platform which will cover both home console and portable system then I think there is a high chance they will go back to the most basic and recognisable name their company has to offer the globe as a gaming icon, back in the 80s and 90s playing video games was often just refered to as "playing Nintendo" with the release of the NX we could see Nintendo the brand, place it's name right there on the console, we could once again have a generation... of Playing Nintendo (and this time we wouldn't even be wrong saying it)

Nintendo Focus !

Also ... on saying it in my head lol... it doesn't sound a massive deal away from Nintendo Fuck Us, but that is just in my 5am Irish brain haha. Still though it does sound futuristic and I think that will be the aim of this project personally, sound like a timeless futuristic idea which distances them from the Wii Branding finally.

I'm going with Ultra NEX because I want to believe that Nintendo can give things an awesome name and that ability did not die with Yokoi.

My ex girlfriend can't say focus without sounding like fuck us. So I completely get that association. Would be great having girls with heavy accents coming over to play :)

I wonder if the X is going to be used as a 10 for their 10th platform (it's a stretch)

(this does leave out game and watch, virtual boy and compress's the GBA into the Gameboy family)

There already is a system called this though, from Nintendo , Sega and Namco, it is the arcade board which runs games like F-Zero AX and Mario Kart Double Dash/Arcade edition.

It was indeed a fantastic name for a system though, but considering that the name was owned jointly by Sega and Namco I doubt Nintendo would revisit it as a hardware name.
