Forums - Gaming Discussion - What is important to you in a Fighting game?

Arcade mode, story mode, random crazy mode (MOM or heroes and heralds). I also require a certain number of playable characters.

I'm casual btw. I know how to play these things, know the regular terms and what they mean and i tried getting good with MK9, but i stopped there for some Reasons. First is that to perform the big combos in a real match you need ALOT of practice. It needs to build muscle memory and it means you have to repeat it alot and i just don't have the time or motivation to just play one game all the time (not a fighter anyways). Second is for health reasons. I got a disease that gets worse if i get nervous alot and i'm very competitive. So, playing online is not healthy for me.

But i do enjoy and play them. I don't have any friends that like to play fighters aswell though (had one but he didnt get a ps4), so it gets a bit lonely. Love to play them casually though. Wish i could play better but aside from specials and short combos its just not possible.



Around the Network

Accessibility, gameplay, characters, variety of modes, and charm. Though it's ironic since I have Tekken and KoF games and they are nowhere near as accessible as Smash Bros or even the latest Street Fighters. As much as I love the fighting genre, I'm not gonna claim that I'm anywhere good at them. I just enjoy the variety of characters and modes that are available. You can't go wrong with possibly the greatest crossover roster in the history of gaming like Smash 4 or a great story in MK9, for example.

I've basically played at least one game in all the major fighting game series. My favorites are USFIV, the whole Smash Bros. series, SCII, DoA5 (yes, even with it's hilariously weird and convoluted story), UMvC3, and Capcom vs. SNK 2.

Character Roster, if I cant like the characters than I wont be interested.

Character roster and gameplay are very important to me, the former moreso than the latter. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would say 4 or 5 maybe.

I'm more of a casual player, so technicality can be really offsetting, though mindless button mashing isn't fun either.. Just got to find that balance

A second Question:

On a scale of 1-10, 1 being casual friendly and 10 being very technical,deep and strict, where do you stand in regards to learning curve of a fighting game? Some people believe that fighting game's have gotten to technical and require too much time and energy to be able to enjoy especially if you're jumping into a series that has been going for some time, while others enjoy that kind of climb.

Characters are the most important. If the characters feel bland, then the game has failed in my opinion. The reason I prefer Tekken is because it's not over the top in gameplay. In lore, it get's crazy, but in gameplay it's usually toned down.

I think it should be around 6. Fighting games have been proven to enchance a player's hand-eye coordination. If they play intelligently enough, a casual gamer can go beyond button mashing, and even help his brain.
