Oh, my... This is the most interesting patent so far. Detachable controllers and projection. Make that thing a portable console and I can see it being a terrific sucess.

I'm kinda mixed on this. With TVs being so cheap these days and many households having multiple TVs, it kinda seems like a solution in search of a problem, sort of like the Wii U tablet was.

That said, sure in a pinch I guess it could be useful and yes it could promote "social gaming". It could also drive teachers at school bat shit insane with kids projecting images onto schoolyard walls at reccess.

On the other hand, I'm not sure if a portable console + detachable controllers + LCD screen + built-in projector can all be put together in one box for under $250.

Could be looking at $299.99 for this thing.

This may also explain how you can play Just Dance anywhere for people who have been asking that.

As a person who owns 3 Just dance games on the Wii U....... I WOULD LOVE THAT!

Somehow that reminds me of Pokemon Go........ XD Imagine people doing that on the streets! I also wonder how the battery life would be. It will probably recommend to play near a power point..... which does restrict stuff but provide safety from people playing anywhere.

Meh, Id never use it

Well there's reality and physics standing in the way too. These pocket projectors aren't very strong, it's not going to show up on a schoolyard wall, especially not in daylight. You pretty much have to play in the dark with a pico projector, not all that inviting in a social setting, plus they're already $200 to start with.

For example, one of the brightest atm, the AAXA P300
http://thewirecutter.com/reviews/the-best-pico-projector/

Given the rule of thumb that you want an image brightness of 16 foot-Lamberts (fL) in theater dark lighting and 40 to 50 fL with moderate light, and assuming a 1.0 gain screen, the measured brightness makes the P300 suitable in its brightest mode for a 54" diagonal image with the lights off or a 30" to 34" image with moderate ambient light.
http://www.projectorcentral.com/AAXA_p300_portable_projector_review.htm?page=Testing

That's a $380 pico projector and needs to be on AC power to reach that brightness, plus kinda hefty to put into a handheld.

Of course a cheaper version with a 20" image at night out camping could be fun, projected against the inside of a tent. Us poor kids only had clunky walkmans while camping.

Of course you do

This actualy quite intresting!
Its assumed that NX handheld/tablet will have detachable controllers, so imagine built in projector, detahc controllers from unit and you can play basically everywhere without TV.

Dont forgret "base unit", I also doubt about price of around $250 or less if relly have built in projector, but $299 maybe could be possilbe.

Man this would be a neat future, not just for having a big screen anywhere, but for doing neat AR project tricks or what have you. Unfortunately, I don't know that projector technology has scaled down enough to pull off the resolution, lumens, and most importantly, price to pull this off... but who knows, Nintendo every so often comes up with some astonishingly impressive tech in their devices; heck, the Wii U's gamepad streaming tech is still the most responsive game streaming device I've used.
