Forums - PC Discussion - New Star Citizen Video Details Very Realistic Character Models

I was going to say I wasn't impressed but I am impressed with how big the lips are on black people.

Yeah, I've seen lots better than this.

Dawn of the Planets of the Apes from 2014 (not Rise from 2011) was the first time I was actually able to enjoy CGI in a live action film. I remember being happy that this advancement happened just in time for Star Wars: Episode VII. Then SW released and I was quite disappointed with the finish on Maz Kanata. She resembled many of the things that I dislike with CGI characters and my brain didn't find her believable at all.

This video from Star Citizen (the woman in the thumb nail doesn't do it justice though) is the first time I find CGI humans in games believable. Right to the point where my brain reacts similarly to the CGI face expressions as it would to real human beings. Similarly to when I watched Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, I'm in awe of how far CGI has advanced. It'll be very scary but I can't wait to experience the first time where my brain confuses CGI with a real human being.

You'd expect a project as massive as Star Citizen to bring with it some serious technological advancements and I applaud these guys for living up to that expectation.

Once this game is complete its going to go down in history as one of the best looking games of all time and I don't see it getting beat anytime soon. This is beyond next gen.

That looks simply unreal. I can't think of anything better than this

I love the female character model in how she moves her eyes about as well as the muscles around her eye reacting like they would for a real human, itneresting stuff.

Also love how they motion capped character movements rather than doing what most AAA devs do and go with static character movements:

Find it funny that a site like DSOG would drum up a bit of a fuss with the "for now" part, CR hasn't stated that it's definitely 100% coming to other platforms as well as those other ones even being able to run it (that and it would be a stab in the back towards those that funded them those millions if they were in any way to water it down).

Yeah, for me, this is one of those titles that should remain exclusive (of course if the studio can afford it). People will build a machine for a title like this (could very well be the next Crysis - except that the requirements won't be so out of reach that you can't truly take advantage of it).

Not a slight to the consoles, but this is just one of those games, in my view.

Afaik the studio made bank on the funding alone, so when the game finally reaches competion, it will be making even more money from out the gate, versus most AAA studios that get their funding from pubs and they have to make their sales back during week and month one.

I'm not building a machine specifically for the game, though there will be people building one for it. I'm building a new one enxt year to get me started on 1440p, though I'm not sure how it will handle SC when it does release, likely won't need to upgrade much by then.

I don't really see it as much of a slight. I mean a group of gamers for years, have wanted a game that makes good use of the high end hardware they buy into and CR just happens to be a guy that shares that dream. To water it down would simply go against the dream those have poured millions into. It really should be a situation where you build to play it rather than wait for it to be watered down because you don't share the same dream to see it for what it is (it's visuals have a lot going for it as well as it's physics and animations, but the visuals are basically a part of the dream CR is sharing).

My impression too is that there are much better character models made in games than this.

These look kind of stiff lol.

This makes twice that I hear that there are "much better" characters out there. Which are they? Graphically, I disagree. In terms of animations, well, the game is still  a ways off (when talking stiff, that's animations).

Well, I've been wrong about these impressions before lol

And I trust your judgement very much on these issues, so therefore i checked one game that immediately came to mind, "that game has probably much better looking characters than Star Citizen."

But my memory served me wrong lol

Better looking than Star Citizen.
