Forums - Nintendo Discussion - How Could Nintendo Improve Upon SMG

What I really want is a Mario game with an in-depth storyline (with a twist!). I don't want to be able to predict the ending. I know its a stretch. In fact, people may complain because its so different than what Mario usually is, but I would love it. SMG 2 would be nice as well.

Make power-ups old-style (Stay until hit)
FULL Co-op (Not P2 can shoot too)
VS. Mini games like in NSMB
Separation of Wiimote and Nunchuk (Shaking either did the same)
New moves (possibly in line with Separation of Wiimote and Nunchuk)

@loadedstatemen: Yes, the story did need improvement. Its was too predictable.

I want them to go back and hit the pipes. I always loved those areas in world 7 of SMB3 where you had to work your way through a maze of pipes. I want the Super Mario Bros to actually get back to their Plumbing and Carpentry roots. Actually have to build structures and repair water and sewer lines in order to be able to progress through levels. Even disassemble stuff in order to complete certain tasks.

Seppukuties is like LBP Lite, on crack. Play it already!

Currently wrapped up in: Half Life, Portal, and User Created Source Mods
Games I want: (Wii)Mario Kart, Okami, Bully, Conduit,  No More Heroes 2 (GC) Eternal Darkness, Killer7, (PS2) Ico, God of War1&2, Legacy of Kain: SR2&Defiance

My Prediction: Wii will be achieve 48% market share by the end of 2008, and will achieve 50% by the end of june of 09. Prediction Failed.

Add more goals that can be accomplished with star bits. Picking them up was fun, but there were a lot of sections where they had no use. I want bosses, enemies and obstacles that require star bits to defeat.

they should have provided a free bottle of flavored lube, and a toadstool plush toy, free with purchase of SMG

also, make the levels more memorable. i feel as if i can recall all of the mario 64 levels (which i played in 1996, and like 10 times since) but im hard pressed to remember any of the smg levels, which i just played 4 months ago.

Less tacked on motion control, waggle to spin, really nintendo that is your idea, again?

I echo the thoughts of the powerups. So great of ideas wasted because they held your hand through each usage.

More connected hubworld. It felt to me like nothing you did in the galaxies mattered once you finished. Lives really didn't matter in this game, coins, powerups. I prefer a SMB3, SMW feel but that is just me.

Bigger galaxies. I am not talking adventure but most of water galaxies, hte bee suit galaxies, and the toy galaxy were memorably large. There jsut seemed to be a few too many that were 6-12 golf balls.

And if they want story( I still don't think Mario games need one or should have one) make it interesting enough for me to bother to to follow it . After the first couple chuncks I never went to the library to hear any more.

But I agree that to keep the formula fresh they need to constatly reinvent themselves. If they wanted to do a true sequel Super Mario 3 redux would be my choice. 2.5D, classic powerups and flying, world maps the worked. The game would be nuts in Japan. Flick Wiimote to flick Racoon tail seems tailor made.

Final* Word on Game Delays:

The game will not be any better or include more content then planned. Any commnets that say so are just PR hogwash to make you feel better for having to wait.

Delays are due to lack of proper resources, skill, or adequate planning by the developer.

Do be thankful that they have enough respect for you to delay the game and maintain its intended level of quality.

*naznatips is exempt

More of the same will do me, SMG was like 20 years of Mario coming to perfection.

That felt really natural for me. I would expand its usage to more situations.

Again, more uses for them. Especially the flying one.

Bigger and more connected, with secret stars like the Castle had.

Bigger galaxies. I am not talking adventure but most of water galaxies, hte bee suit galaxies, and the toy galaxy were memorably large. There jsut seemed to be a few too many that were 6-12 golf balls.

Instead of there being 3 story stars and 5 rehash stars per galaxy, make it more like 6 story stars and 2 rehash stars at most.

And if they want story( I still don't think Mario games need one or should have one) make it interesting enough for me to bother to to follow it . After the first couple chuncks I never went to the library to hear any more.

Remove the story altogether, except for save the princess from Bowser (obviously).

So, basically New Super Mario Bros., but better and Wii-fied? I'm in.
