I've had 3rd party lightning cables stop working, after I updated the IOS before. You gotta look that the product shows its supported by apple. Like I-Blason.

But I would guess they aren't as cheap as the ones not supported right? Because that is the point greenmedic was making, that if you think apple is charging too much for the adapter or phone you can buy the cheap alternatives. For android phones the alternatives are quite cheap (most are crap, but that is the trade-off anyway)
