Forums - Sony Discussion - Best TV for PS4 Pro?

EDIT:  Also guys I forgot to mention that input lag is NOT a concern!  I have never noticed and don't play competitively online so not an issue to consider for me when selecting TVs.  I'm also getting it a lot for movie viewing

With this in mind I would definitely recommend the 930D (if you can afford it).

The perfect TV for the Pro is the Sony Z9D series. I went to Best Buy the week before the Pro event and saw this beauty of a TV, and decided right then and there I was going to be getting that for what ever the Neo turned out to be. Sony demo'ed the Pro on the z9D, and IMO the 9D blew people in attendence away more than the Pro. Most people have not see a TV on the level of the Z9D because it is the only one in it's class.

Only problem with the Z9D is the price. $6K for 65" or $9K for 75". But, when I say it looks like a next gen TV, I am absolutly not exaggerating, I look at TV's all year, and I have not been blown away since the old SXRD Rear Projection TV's Sony made back in the mid 2000's. The Z9D from my experince with it, is an even greater jump, then the jump from SD to HD. Now I can't wait to what it lloks like connected to the Pro Nov 10th.

I need to vent so sorry all for going off topic.

I once had a Sony SXRD KDS-55A3000.  Awesome television.  I first bought it in February 2008, and I just gave it away this year.  At the time of purchase, I paid $1800 for this set, and anything in a flat panel that was comparable in specs was at least twice the price.  Not perfect, the Sony SXRD KDS-55A3000 was a beautful set in which I spent hours tweaking it to its best for my surroundings.

Currently, I own the KDL-60W630B and the KDL-55W800C.  Both Sony, both smart TV's, both LEDs, 60" & 55" respectively.  The KDL-60W630B is a basic smart TV in the living room for general viewing while the KDL-55W800C is probably one of the best pre-4K televsions you can get at the time for gaming and home theather purposes.  Both of these sets being newer tech is better than the Sony SXRD, but the Sony SXRD was so great for its time it was so hard for me to let go.  I just didn't have to room to justify saving it somewhere.  Any videophile will know that the KDS-55A3000 was an impressive set for its time.  And what's really sad is that no one around me would pay money for it when trying to sell it because they were so caught up un the flat panel hype not knowing the quality of a television that is really is.  I finally got a coworker's brother-in-law to take it off of my hand when I finally had to offer the TV for free.

Obviously in today's market, I'd pick the televsion sets I have now over the SXRD, but that set was so sweet that provided so many great movie viewing and gaming moments.

It really depends on what you're after. I personally would never game on a TV ever again. I upgraded to a 1ms gtg monitor and there's a noticeable difference in the screen refresh rates between the monitor and the TV. But that feature may not be important to you. I got it specifically to reduce lag for my games.

I'll sacrifice colors if it means having a seemingly lag-less display. This isn't my monitor. I still don't need 4K, because I'd rather do 1080 with greater graphical fidelity. Looking as how long we were on 4:3 aspect ratio, I don't see a need to go to 4k when I can just get better 1080.

Also, I forgot about the HDR.  And, TVs of that size usually are going to come with more input lag.  So, again, you don't get to check off every box when it comes to features on a monitor, or TV.  You don't get everything.  Personally, I just want the ps4  pro for stable freamerates, and greater graphics.

You got the OP just right

I do love the image of my Sony 65X850C but when turning on HDR for Netflix even with brightness very low everything was washed out =[

So I'm shopping around looking for the best TV to pair with my PS4 Pro.  Don't need a ton of screen size but looking for something that will take full advantage.  I've heard that OLED makes a big difference with colors even compared to other HDR and 4k sets.  The 4k and HDR are essential since that's what I'm getting the Pro to see.  The OLED I'm willing to be convinced either way whether it's worth the extra bucks.  I mean there's a 43" Sony that has HDR10 but no OLED then there's a 55" LG that is OLED but is about $1,000 more expensive.  Have you guys put a lot of research into this or seen them side by side?  What TV would you recommend for getting the most out of a PS4 Pro?

EDIT:  Also guys I forgot to mention that input lag is NOT a concern!  I have never noticed and don't play competitively online so not an issue to consider for me when selecting TVs.  I'm also getting it a lot for movie viewing

But you are Robert Downey Jr. You can afford anything. Or was that Iron Man?

Paying for the Avengers and their cleanup costs a lot of money!  I've gotta cut back somewhere especially with Thor preparing for the end of days

I am Iron Man

It is an absolute shame that consumers killed rear projection TVs. SXRDs were so much better than LCD, and so much cheaper as well. People unfortunatly misunderstood the bulb going out with thinking their whole TV was broke. All they had to do was call the manufacturer and request a free replacement bulb which was standard from any respectable manufacturer. You could easily get 4 - 5 years from a TV on the 1st bulb, and then another 4 - 5 years on the 2nd before having to spend a minuscule $300 for the 2nd replacement bulb.

SXRDs had absolutly zero screen door effect, no judder, no artifacting, extreamly good black levels, and as low as 4ms response times. Now we are stuck with LCD, LED, and OLED, all of which suffer from many issues, and have input lag around 20ms at best or 35ms average. Great example of consumers ruining the industry  with uninformed purchases.

For example, I paid $700 for the KDL-55W800C just late last year.  It was well worth the money by itself, but the difference of quality over the SXRD wasn't worth that.  Maybe at the most $300 or $400 for all features.  Not implying that the KDL-55W800C purchase was a bad one, this just illustrates how great Sony's SXRDs were at the time.  Samsung still made a few rear projections into late 2008, and Mitsubishi just stopped production a short while ago. Ultimately, I blame the general consumer's mass mob mentality for killing off such a quality product.  I was trying to sell the SXRD for a max $400 in late 2015, but the common response from the peasants were, "FOR $400 I CANT GET ME A NEW FLAT SCREEN." F*#^!*% idiots.

When not concerning yourself with budget, within reason, the absolute best TV series out there are the LG OLED TV's. I have seen them in person many of times and side-by-side with all their biggest competitors. These TV's simply have the best color, the most vibrancy, and the only TV that has real pure black.

They may not be quite as bright as the Samsung and Sony TV's but they more than make up for it in all the other areas. Since the Blacks are so much better the HDR impact looks better on the OLED than it does with LED LCD, even when compared to Full-Array LED backlit TV's.

They also has the least grayscale, the lowest brightness, the most burn-in, and the shortest lifespan. They also lack a noise algorithm, so I hope you enjoy artifacting.

In my case burn-in will not be an issue since the TV will be used more for video than for Video Gaming and it will almost never have a static image on it. The grayscale and brightness levels virutally go hand-in-hand and when watching dark scenes in movies OLED still looks much better so it is a comprimise I would be willing to take. From what I have seen I have not seen any noticable artifacting, at least no more than with other TV's.

I cannot speak for the lifespan of the TV but if it will last the 5-7+ years that a TV is good for nowadays, than it is good enough.

I still stand by my point that from a pure Picture Quality standpoint, in both film and gaming, the LG OLED is the best TV out there.
