Forums - Sony Discussion - Death Stranding due out before Tokyo 2020 Olympics

Kojima Productions has set an internal release date for Death Stranding, its E3 2016-announced PlayStation 4 open-world action game starring Norman Reedus, studio boss Hideo Kojima said during a Tokyo Game Show 2016 stage event.

While he wouldn’t share specifics, Kojima did share a hint: It will launch before the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2020, and before the release of the new Akira.

Kojima also said that the game will feature a new form of co-op play, but will also be fully playable in single-player.

Damn son that's a long time from reveal to launch if it is 2020 release.

Is Kojima just trolling us and basically saying before the 2020 olympics to make people think it's a 2020 release whilst actually meaning more like 2018 since thats before the olympics.

If it releases in 2020 it could just straight up be a PS5 game.

So long way aways then.

More importantly.. new Akira? Whenandwhatnow? :o

So, basically, only the CGI teaser is ready right now =P

I'd be surprised if it releases before Summer 2020. They're not in full production, they don't even have an engine yet. ~4 years is normal for any big open world AAA title, but Kojima might add another year or 2 on top of it.

This is gonna be a PS5 or cross gen title anyway. You'll start seeing the excuses coming around 2019 for the reasons for the delays, "we wanna take advantage of new hardware etc".

So we'll get it in 2022 then. Great.

Did anyone expect anything different??

What about before the Rugby World cup in Japan?

Delayed to 2021 confirmed!

MGS5 was such a huge disappointment so I'm not excited for Death Stranding.
