Surface. A Surface phone will be along soon.

I hope so but I have my doubts.

The future of Windows Phone is uncertain. I'm thinking they are gonna do a big push on phones that also function as a desktop PC. That seems like their best advantage to other devices.

The tablets are apparently doing well.

X1 is still very relevant and being used as a vehicle for Windows 10.

HoloLens is still in development.

Microsoft is going to be pushing gaming PCs. Hopefully that goes better than Steam machines.

With that said, it looks like MS is still interested in consumer hardware.

They already tried to turn mobile phones into PCs. It failed miserably. Their mobile business is done for. It's a shame because windows mobile had potential. But they allocated more money for promotion instead of R & D, because it was half backed good idea.

It sounds like the Surface Phone is a thing that's gonna happen though.

We'll have to wait and see.

Wow windows is not big for Microsoft ?? I know Windows 8 was not good and probably many use a pirate windows version. But honestly there must be more than 100million windows users. Pretty much anyone who plays games or uses office has a Windows OS.

Yeah but that would not be much I guess. To me they are encouraging more PC gamers that way than console gamers.

Yeah but don't they often take a loss on consoles sales with the goal to make the money back in software/royalties and peripherals. If they can get their Windows store to take off (which I can't really see happening to be honest) then they'd still be making money off of all their own games and 3rd party games sold through it without having to spend anything out on making consoles.

I agree that they are trying to push their store with the exclusivitey for Xbone games. I am just wondering is the market that big enough ? Because announcing Forza and Halo games coming to PC. Anyone who wants to get into gaming will now seriously consider PC and the fact that online is also free and can play with both PC and Xbox users is another incentive

Tried a Windows phone a few months ago just for the experience. No thanks. Please kill them ASAP with fire. Could not run back to Android quick enough.

Isn't the office brand the biggest bulk of revenue?

Server and Cloud. But yes Office is bigger than Windows.  Windows is 4th, behind server/Cloud, Gaming and Office.

The last time windows revenue was shown seperately in Microsoft financials, it was about 20% of Microsoft revenue, that was in 2013 I believe

It is now in "More personal computing" the division that contains Windows, hardware and some others, which is at $12bn revenue for first 6 months.

Windows by itself is now less than 10% of Microsoft revenue.

That's crazy to me. I don't follow info like this as closely as I used to. Going to read up on this soon. Fascinating. Especially gaming > windows.

MS still has Surface and Xbox Products. They will be releasing a Surface branded phone soon after the Lumia line is discontinued.

Mobile was never part of their identity, the Xbox brand however is. X1 didn't tank hardenough to be discontinued. They might though if the next gen flops harder than this one.

Unlikely since this was the worst stumbling they've experienced since Jasper...

no. they just killing the money losing phone division. something their ceo never wanted and would've never bought.
xbox and surface is making money

I think they will move to a more uniform platform, where windows can be on anything and everything and there will be a Xbox version of Windows. Where you can buy a console or build a PC install a Windows Xbox on it and it'll run like an Xbox with some windows features. Seems like a sound idea, might not work in practice.

Hmm, pie.

ms has always been quite quick to try a thing and quite quick to move on when things are going well.

what i'm saying is i would not look at any one particular failure and a overall trend in company strategy. they might be pulling out of phones today but they just may be launching a rebranded phone in 2 years.

kill and rebuild seems to be core to ms's beliefs when they run into adversity.
