Forums - PC Discussion - Sony forcing Nvidia hand?

When I was watching PS4 pro reveal event, the thing that was going through my mind (will this force Nvidia to give us proper 4k cards at a reasonable price?).

I have a feeling that the next batch of cards are going to be insane.

Do you guys agree or disagree?

Nvidia's already the performance leader on PC, and you'll be hard-pressed to find a PC gamer that owns a GTX 1070 or higher (not that that would give you a stable 4k experience...) who also wills to drop his/her platform of choice for "kinda 4k but not really, and I gotta pay extra for multiplayer"...

Since that doesn't really infringe on their market..I disagree.

Why would a GPU that's not even close to render 4k be forcing someone who is just one generation away to finally have the first real 4k GPU?

BTW there are currently Nvidia cards with double the raw performance of the PS4 GPU for less than 400 bucks.

We all know Sony will use clever lingo to market this as a 4k gaming device.

I believe Nvidia needs to market there next product "4k ready" like what they did this year with "VR ready"

Nvidia doesn't need to do shit. It's the unrivaled market leader in high end graphics. Pascal is basically just a shrink and refresh of Maxwell and you still have more than 50% more performance gen to gen. Volta won't be that much of an improvement but even 20% more will keep any competitor at bay. And thanks to AMD also inflating their high end prices they won't have to throttle theirs either.

Nvidia didn't earn their market share by being complacent. They use consoles sell numbers/consoles relative power in their marketing all the time.

No. The situation is the other way around if anything. Nvidia's recent offerings as of late have put the pressure on amd and console manufacturers.

So you don't regard the GTX 1080 as a "real 4K GPU"?

Nvidia has cards that are double the performance of the PS4 for less than $400, but did you mean the PS4 Pro? Because that's very doubtful.
