Forums - General Discussion - Will mobile internet ever supplant cabled internet?

It happened with voice. There's no reason whatsoever to have a landline at domestic environment. With 4g the mobile internet reached speeds that easily surpasses most of the land connections, the main problem being data caps, but this problem is also arriving to land internet and being worked out in mobile with the next generation of connections like 5G.

I'm not talking about the infrastructure, of course the towers will still need cables to work properly. I'm talking about the final consumer.

I hope not, because mobile internet is not as reliable. It's not a huge issue but when you're doing something that requires reliability (such as online gaming), it can be quite annoying.

That said, it probably will for the most part.

I would imagine so. Seem to be the way. The way of the future!

I don't think there is any hazard at all. Like "the air" is fine. Sure, the amount of pornography passing through all of us is staggering, buy it's safe. Being right on a tower can f you up.

I think mobile internet wont ever be as reliable as cable. Sure, you dont want a cable using your laptop on your couch or your bed, but then again, if you are going to game, or to transfer inmportant non interrumpible data, you wont want mobile.

Funny thing is I've had more problems with wired Internet of the last few years then mobile.

Anyway I'm sure it will take over but it will be a while. It will be a good thing for all those who live in rural or remote areas who don't have access to high speed wired Internet.

Mobile connections get worse the more people use them. That's why most people will prefer wifi in their homes, wifi will always be faster and more reliable than mobile.

That said it's gonna be very interesting to see how mobile will develop over the next 10 years with the massive flood of data coming from the IoT. Wonder how they'll cope.

Reliablity sucks on mobile and data caps are a problem. Won't happen.

I prefer mobile over cable internet... That is mainly because I'm in Oregon where trees and shit are everywhere and it rains constantly causing my internet to be unreliable. Hell it stops working a few times a day. This isn't just my provider either, we've had 3 -people I know also have unstable internet due to the environment. That being said, being on the west coast and using mobile isn't the most reliable thing either. There are huge dead zones out here past the main cities. Makes me envious of people on the east coast or those who live in areas where the area they live doesn't affect their internet x.x
