This probably the new normal.

PS4 Pro - 2016
XBox Scorpio - 2017
PS5 - 2019
XBox Next - 2020

PS5 Pro - 2022

3 year intervals for both with the two in different years.

But yeah you just can't get into situations like this where you rush out a product to make a competing companies previous product underpowered.... because then guess what? Microsoft rush out their next-gen machine that makes the ps5 the weakling. It's a cycle, you can't always have the newest most powerful product out, otherwise your products will never get off the ground in the first place.

There's no sense in it.

I believe more and more that the PS5 will be a proper console generation and not compatible with neither the PS4 or PS4 Pro.

I am certain of this also. I wasn't sure before the Pro Reveal but now I am.

Yeah. What made you more certain apart from what I already said (and apart from Sony claiming it's not a blurring between generations)? Have you picked up something interesting?

Perhaps the PS4 Pro announcement event being so low-key also suggests that this is only an upgraded PS4 for the enthusiasts, not a "half-step" between generations like Microsoft tries to portray the Scorpion.

It's the new normal, might as well get used to it. 5-6 year console cycles are dead. Even NX I think will have shorter upgrade points. There will be multiple NX models with differing hardware over the next 4-5 years and Sony/MS will release a new console every 3 years.

Also price.... you need to plan these things so they match up to new advancements in CPU&GPU,Ram technologys along with Proccessing plant node advancements, so they can actually do a meaning "jump" at a reasonable price.

Lets not also forget the ever longer time it takes to develope game, and the higher costs of doing so.

Developers want the Console life cycle to be long, so they have a big user base to sell the games too.

Huh? I don't think you understood what I was saying. I was saying you shouldn't try and rush to release a product early to make a competitors product look weaker when it is all swings and roundabouts anyway.

So this is exactly like Microsoft envisions (wishes) it.

And which games will be compatible with which consoles?

Will new games in 2019 and 2020 be exclusive to PS5, or will they also work with a PS4 Pro but not the regular PS4?

Will all AAA games in late 2020 that work on Xbox Next also be required to work on the Xbox Scorpio, or are those users screwed lol?

This is how they both (MS AND Sony) want it.

Beyond that I think the big take away MS has taken from this generation (whether you agree or not) is that they cannot have weaker hardware than Sony. All the emphasis on Scorpio is "more powerful this" "specs that". They learned their lesson, XBox is synonmous with the best third party multiplats, once they lost that, they lost their brand identity. So they have to one-up Sony on specs, they cannot just coast on brand.

No. Mr House explicitly said that the PS4 Pro is not a blurring of the generations!

TBH I hope they don't release another console until at least 2020. Also Andrew House said it'll be a while before their next console.
