I think PlayStation 5 will launch 2019, and no Sony should not react to other company's release plans. It's not about making another company "fail" it's about creating the most successful product you can.

Yeah, in 2019 at the earliest though. Sony might not have the spec advantage in this case, but I don't think it will really matter in the long run. Sony has a very solid video game release schedule for the next couple of years, and many more announcements to come. Scorpio basically being an mid-range PC with no exclusive games, and very likely a much higher price tag than Pro will hurt the console's sales overall, I think.

That would just backfire on Sony more than even affecting the Scorpio so no.

Also there's no sense in ending the generation so prematurely, PlayStation are absolutely dominating, why start again with a new system so soon?

There's a LOT of money to be made from the PS4, they shouldn't cut it's legs too quickly.

Man, this arms race is so pathetic.

I think a move like that would be very very rash on Sony's side, and completely ruin what they've got going right now. It's important to note that the hardware specs isn't the only reason why a consumer will buy something, it's also from heresay, if others have ity and most importantly the games.

They will keep the 2:1 sales relationship and Sony won't have to react.

I believe more and more that the PS5 will be a proper console generation and not compatible with neither the PS4 or PS4 Pro. I'm not sure about it, but I'm not as convinced about this "blurring of generations" as I was when Microsoft talked about it.

One big reason to believe this is the PS4 Pro's weak CPU. I think it's too weak to support the most advanced games that are developed for release in 2020 and onwards.

I hope this is the case, and that Microsoft is forced to follow suit, because obviously future games will be able to be more advanced if the lowest supported system is the PS5/Nextbox rather than a PS4 Pro with its weak CPU.

A PS5 as a reaction to the Scorpion is crazy talk because there simply won't exist hardware that is much faster than the Scorpion or even PS4 Pro for use in a console in the next couple of years. What's the point of a PS5 that is only double as fast as a PS4 Pro? That would be a huge disappointment.

They should MILK this gen for all the money they can.... at reasonable prices.

They already won the gen, being more than 2 to 1, with the Xbox One.
Just let it play out until 2019-2020.

So what if Scorpio comes out late 2017.... 2-3years lateron they ll start the next generation with a Playstation 5.

If anything I think Sony wants this gen to last as long as it can.

Im expecting the Slim to drop waaaay down in price over time, and Sony trying to sell as many PS4's as they did PS2's.

I am certain of this also. I wasn't sure before the Pro Reveal but now I am.
