Trying to follow, why?. What has you very interested in following what I'm trying to say?.

A combination of boredom and manic depression. Go on.

Manic depression, well why didn't you say so?.

I know how depression is. I hope you manage to be free of it someday.

From the way you wrote that sentence, I read that you say this article is popping up just because the PS4P has been announced.

But the article didn't pop up just now. It was written well before the PS4P was announced.

I'm on about talking the recent gathering of information to post here since the final PS4P reveal, not recent articles published from last year. Someone a few months back pulled a Cinemablend article to a debate that dated 3 years ago on PC information, the point there was that info was outdated, the info from last year isn't entirely out of date, hence why I was on about the recent posting of said information, not the date of the article itself.

It may not have been clear why I pulled up some stats about GPU sales, so let me clarify.

Lots of PC folks have gotten upset at the idea that PS4P was made to compete with PC.  But, this thread - if you go and read the OP - has Andy House saying:

“I saw some data that really influenced me,” he explained. “It suggested that there’s a dip mid-console lifecycle where the players who want the very best graphical experience will start to migrate to PC, because that’s obviously where it’s to be had.

Data huh?  What data!  This is VGChartz, show me the data!  Could we see somewhere, a historical trend of PC sales increasing and console decreasing in relation to console launches and mid-generation timing?

I quoted one data point.  The data by the way for 2016 is no better than 2015... PC Discrete GPUs were increasing in sales throughout the last console generation, and they started to decline since 2014 to present.

At least it's manic and I get to enjoy those strange ecstatic emotional highs in between soul-sucking lows.

I think he meant, it was odd that I pulled the article up now when the PS4P was announced.

It has nothing to do with PS4P... and I don't think it was odd in the context as someone said: "PS4 & PC are competing, and PS4 is losing".

If it absolutely nothing to do with the PS4P topic then why is it even added to this thread in the first place?. What has been talked of in this thread is the price of PS4P, the price of a PC rig (the silly high end ones that are somehow always tossed in) and the "prevention of migration" towards PC gaming. People have talked about GPU prices in regard to the PS4P as well as the number of users that would have a certain model of GPU. Your article talks of a delcine in sales for GPU's in 2014 and prior, you then added the current iterations of 8th gen systems but the subject of that article and your "migration" focus compare with how House was going on about preventing migration from PS4 to PC over the gen.

Do you think there will be a severe decline in those wanting to game on PC, if so then what happens next to that market in general?.

Right.  The article quoted by the OP is saying Sony think PSP4 will prevent migration, which they have seen in historical data.  I think it's pretty interesting to look at some historical data to understand this, rather than just give opinions.

Analyzing the state of PC gaming market isn't simple.  As you probably know, total PC sales are shrinking.  Also total GPU sales have dropped almost 50% in 3 years.  However, the PC gaming market is increasing.

PC Enthusiast market is the best growth sector with a continuous increase in sales.  This sector is apparently over 16.4 Million people as of 2015.

The Performance PC market is different.  It slumped 2014 to present, which coincides with the new console generation, but is predicted to increase from next year.  Is it possible this is what Andy House is trying to prevent?

Same for Mainstream PC

What do you think?  Sony may be right about this migration?  I'm sure they have lots of data, from publishers and so on about sales trends on PC and ofcourse on PS4.

These graphs would correlate with these assumptions:
 - PC Enthusiasts wouldn't care about consoles and not affected by PS4 launch
 - PC Performance levels users would initially think PS4 was quite good but over time would start being attracted back to higher PC quality within their budget.
 - PC Mainstream level users would be happy with PS4 for longer.

Assuming the dedicated PC gamer would want to game on a console? It doesn't make sense.

People who game on consoles usually already game on consoles.

Why wouldn't a PC gamer want to try out some of the good console exclusives? All that is keeping them is the power difference. The PS4 pro is closer to PC performance than the PS4 was at release. PS4 Pro is the best thing that happened to PC gamers ever. A mid gen upgrade is all that they ever needed.

Why do you think people like me or Totalbiscuit who are basically PC only players are so damn excited about this console?

I would say the PS4 Pro and PS4 was positioned in terms of power/price relative to the PC fairly equally, well GPU wise anyway.
If you still want the PC experience (I.E. Multi-monitor, 5k resolutions etc') then PC is of course still the only place you can get that.
When the PS4 launched you had the Radeon 7870, 7950, 7970 and the Radeon 290 and 290X on the market.

When the PS4 pro launched you had the 390/390X/Fury/Fury X that was pushing past it.
That ignores all the Multi-GPU cards and configurations though which muddy's things up, we can't really count Vega either as that wasn't on the market before the consoles dropped.

But the Sony exec does have a point, Mid and end cycle of a console generation... They recognized how the PC platform grows during various points in the consoles life-cycle (I.E. During the mid/end of the generation.) and they are trying to mitigate that to a degree.
Competition *is* a good thing, it's good that console manufacturers are recognizing the PC more and leveraging that platform with more multiplatform games or increasing the visual bar or adding incentives. (Like remote play)

It kind of makes sense that PC Enthusiasts wouldn't care about consoles while Performance & Mainstream level users may find those platforms more fungible.

I'm going to have to agree to a degree.

I tend to be an early adopted for most platforms though, new consoles are exciting and tend to get most of my gaming time, but after awhile I tend to gravitate back towards my PC as the initial excitement fades.

Finally a PC enthusiast who doesn't react to all this as if it was an attack to PC gaming.

But... Most games will still feel like slideshows to you. :/

Not if they are stable 60 fps. The bigger issue is the input lag caused by the TV.

Sorry Chazore. =P

In this forum, it's difficult to sift through the "attacks" and the "musings".

On one hand, you have people asking questions or trying to make legitimate points without detracting from the other side.

And on the other, you have hateful people who do nothing but try to take away from other platforms using trollbait and lies.

Pemalite has a refreshing take, as he addresses everything with calm, objective rationale. He may be a PC gamer and proud of it, but that doesn't mean that the PS4 or XB1 suck to him. Most others on the forum automatically take up a defensive stance: myself included.
