Mass Attack was also a pancake, it turned up to be better than many "mainline" games of the franchise.

Having looked into Mass Attack, it at least looks like it delivers the cute charm, problem solving, and creativity of the franchise.

Sorry, but a game about captain olimar collecting pikmins to defeat enemies and solve puzzles is not that far from the concept of the original game, you are treating this game as if was Pikmin Federation Force, and it definitely isn't, it could be bad or good, but is not as disconected from the franchise, even the artstyle is almost identic, just in 2D.

Uhh, well I'm decently excited for it. Seems like it can have potential with complex puzzles it can offer later down in the road, but not too overly complex since it's a 2D title, so I have moderate hopes for it. I always get a kick out of puzzle games that are decently challenging, but not over the top.

Except everything shown of this so far indicates a simplistic sidescroller without the exploration or complexity of the series.

Because spin offs don't need to have all characteristics of the original, that's what makes them spin offs, and what about waiting until there is more than 50 seconds of footage to see if there's actual complexity? Cause it looked like they just show the very first levels.

They don't need to have all the characteristics, but they do need to have the ones that made the IP good. Otherwise it's just a cash grab.

Here I was thinking Mario Kart was good and it turns up is just a cash grab, you cannot even jump, what a way to destroy the franchise.

Do you think Kirby Mass Attack was a low quality game too? Because I have to insist, this is following the same style of gameplay, you are being quite superficial in your judgement here and you couldn't possibly have any expectations about an unexpected spin off, you didn't order that pizza, there is a pancake on the menu and you complain cause you want Pizza intead, that doesn't mean the pancake is bad (God I hate metaphors sometimes).

Basically, if it isn't a pizza, don't call it a pizza. Don't slap a franchise name on something unless you're going to deliver on what makes that franchise great.

And I can't comment on Mass Attack, I'm not familiar with it.

I dunno I think this idea can work. The Pikmin characters are cute, but the RTS nature of the game really limits the audience IMO. It's not very accessible.

Spin-offs can work, Nintendo's done it many times. I still vividly remember being at my friend's house and flipping through his just arrived copy of Nintendo Power magazine, and he said "look at this piece of shit game, it's a Mario racing game, it looks like crap! I want a new Mario, not this!". That game was Super Mario Kart for the Super NES, lol.

That said the developer here if it is Azrest isn't that great from past performance it seems. I thought for what it is it looked decent though.

Its 2D Pikmin platformer of course that can be compared to real 3D Pikmin, but saying that it looks interesting for 2D platformer, I don't think at all it looks bad, it looks similar to other 3DS 2D platformers (definatly not loking like 99 cent download game, lol).

Mario Kart gets away with it because it's best in class. This, on the other hand, looks quite bad.

I dunno I think it looks decent. Some of the better graphics I've seen on a 3DS when you consider it's running both screens.
