Forums - Gaming Discussion - A good time to invest in a 4k TV? (Next 15 months)

Hell no. I wouldn't buy a 4K TV for at least 2 years, maybe even 3. The prices are too high, the penetration is too low, and the content is just not there yet.

1: Ps4 Pro (trade in ps4)

1: PS4P does not support full 4k.

It doesn't need to support full 4k to look freaking awesome on a 4k TV!

And I think it can support full 4k just on simpler games that don't require much power.

If money is an issue just hold out for the ps5 in about 4 years.  I bet you'll get a top end 55" UHD 4K HDR TV for $500 by then.

Sounds like a plan~~

I'd like to add maybe I should extend that 12 month window to 16 months. January sales of 2018 could be the ideal time to strike during the sales.

Yep, it might as well be 4K. You're not going to be able to tell much of a difference unless you use a magnifying glass. And I believe Rise of the Tombraider is actually native 4K. You've got to hand it to Sony. Everyone was waiting for next year but 4Ks here already. It's a damned clever move.

The PS5 Exists.

On the top of that investment list some might consider to add an 4K HDR amp as well. That's another k bucks.

Aren't the consoles going a little too faster in specs regarding the customer install base? Think they are 5 years too earlier. I'll not buy again a TV set and a new amp only to benefit of that new graphics capability.

I want to buy a 4KTV but apparently, 40 inches isn't a good size for a 4ktv? Depends on what the prices are during BF/the Holidays if I get one this year.

It depends on how close you sit to the TV. I only sit three feet away from my TV when playing games so I'd see 4K nicely even if it was just a 32 inch.

Yeah 4k on a 40 inch isn't really worth it for a lounge room type set up. As a computer monitor though they are amazing.
