Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft: Xbox Scorpio's power advantage over PS4 Pro 'will be obvious'

Power gaps don't matter anymore.

Well, in terms of TFlops, ps4 is 50% more powerfull than Xbox One
And Scorpio is 50% more than PS4 Pro.
So, the same advantage PS4 had comparing to One.
Is that big obvious difference that everyone would notice?

Were you here back in 2013?

It was almost as if XOne games were unplayable. Thread upon threads on how third parties would drop support and the gap would wide ad infinitum.

Well first of all, no. Even if it is 50% more powerful you won't see it in performance because of the 1080p/4k gap. It won't do more than 1080p60 even if it could and it won't do more than 4k30 because it can't.

And second it won't be noticeable because everyone will already have bought a PS4 Pro and as such will never experience any difference.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Still no Japanese love, im not really so hot on Western made games, they probably make up only 10% of my gaming catalogue.

Theres a lot of things here, the scorpio might have more then 8GB DDR5-ram, it might have a new processor. The difference in GPU will be noticable, but if the other components are also a lot faster the difference could be huge.

Next year when Scorpio comes out with a 500 pricetag and 0exclusives.

Scorpio sales 0
Pa4/pro. 60-70mill

Gues where the developers will go?

By which time PS4Pro will be $300. I forsee a fairly rapid price reduction schedule for the Pro, since it is not all shiny new fandangled technology just a moderate upgrade. So the price cut cycle should be shorter than for a newly minted generation.

Doubt it (unless they're willing to eat a loss). Microsoft is much more capable of eating a loss, and a GPU with 6-8tflops shouldn't be much more expensive by the time the scorpio releases (the RX 480 is almost 6tflops and only $200).

They have to integrate it in a box. They just can't shrink it to make a APU for the same price.

CPU will be similar to support Xbone compatibility. PS4 had good ram advatnage as well apart from gpu. The main difference was it was getting some 50% more pixels at same and sometimes even better performance. The biggest reason for PS4 sucess is the compact size and price. Xbone was big fat and external powerful supply and down on power with same price

They aren't worried about the years lead.. what about price?

If it comes out a year behind and is more expensive - they will need to be worried.

The Xbox One S will likely take up the lower price bracket as the cheaper alternative.
Scorpio being a more "Premium" product in the stack can be priced higher.

Yes but Xbox will still be Xbox. Which means little to no Japanese games. No street fighter. No NI-OH. No persona. No yakuza. If it's just more halo gears forza, sadly I don't see it doing any better than the current One. Just prettier. I would like a return to 360 like software support and third party exclusives like blue dragon, eternal sonata, beautiful katamari, ace combat 6, and many other.

I don't really have much time for Japanese games these days, but I can see why people might be attracted to such games.

With that said... I have to agree, Microsoft lacks a good variety of exclusives and that is something they need to fix.
It's ironic because Nintendo have the opposite problem, they don't get enough Multiplats. Haha

I'm with the Xbox because Sony doesn't have the franchises that appeals to me most, but that's a personal preference thing.

Well, Scorpio will literally be 1 full PS4 more powerful than PS4 Pro and sporting beastly memory bandwidth and newer cpu cores. That's a decisive amount of rendering power.

In terms of compute maybe, but do try and hold some reservation untill hardware is in our hands... There is more to rendering a game than the amount of flops and bandwidth a chip has.

PS5 will probably come out in 2020 or 2019 at the earliest. Xbone2 will have some 45% performance advantage but it can't do native 4K gaming and have good detail both at same time. It will basically be Xbone games on 4K 30fps

It will likely do 1440P/1600P/1800P and then use frame reconstruction or upscaling to 4k. There is a big benefit to this over regular 1080P.

I think it will be $399.99. All it is is a Polaris 11 which is a 5.5 TFLOP processor clocked up a bit. A Polaris 11 is a cheap GPU.

MS learned their lesson with the XBOne launch, Scorpio is basically the apology console.

Positive the hardware specifications of Scorpio haven't been announced yet, we have no idea what GPU it will be using.

Microsoft does have shareholders though which dislike loss-eating schemes, Microsoft actually had to change the way it announced it's financials to hide any hits to the division.

As for flops and cost. An 8 Teraflop GPU could cost the exact same amount as a 4 Teraflop GPU.
It all comes down to yield and how the chip reacts to voltage and clock rates.

The PS5 Exists.

Yeah, the jump from PS4 to PS4 Pro isn't obvious so my guess that the jump from PS4 Pro will be even less so.
