You are clearly ignoring Sony magic. The PS4 will magically make all tv's HDR compatable

UHD premium is 4 different things though, 4K res, 10 bit panel, > 90% DCI-P3 color coverage, and 1000 nit brightness for HDR.

You can have HDR on 8 bit panels at lower max brightness, as well as DCI-P3 color. But yeah, I wouldn't know how they could ever persuade a 1080p tv to display HDR, or pump HDR through hdmi 1.4

It's a clusterfuck. The blu-ray alliance introduced the UHD Premium logo to help out consumers as tv manufacturers like to hide the specs that count. However Sony made their own logo that also covers tvs that don't meet all the specs while some tvs that do meet the requirements didn't get certified. Luckily we have the internet nowadays.

I was reading about HDR and the whole Premium logo on TV and I read about one company that was doing their own logo and was doing it in some way that they were also then labeling other tv's of their own that weren't UHD certified with their logo. I was thinking "wow that is shitty, what a way to lie to customers and get them to think they bought something that isn't true"

Funny its Sony.

It's 10 bit, 4k, though I can't seem to find the specs that would tell me the color coverage or the brightness.

So Samsung have a TV that meets the requirements at $1300 but Sony doesn't at $1600. Wtf! 

 

Or am I missing a Sony TV that does at a decent price?  

 

How big a deal is the difference between 8 and 10 in your opinion?

So ultra HD 4K 55" are already down to $800. In the January sales probably even cheaper.  

 

Do Sony gave anything comparable to this and if so what and how much?

Ugh, seems Vizio found another way to mislead. Yes it has a 10 bit panel, however it's an 8 bit tv :/

Color Depth: 8 Bit

When sending a 10 bit signal, 8 bit gradations can be seen even though the panel is 10 bit. Despite this, the gradient performs pretty well, without any major color or banding issues.

Color coverage is low, no wide color gamut. It does however support both HDR formats, HDR10 and Dolbby vision. It just can't display them all that well.

I'm just gonna wait a year, the more I look into these HDR tvs the less I feel like buying one. I'm sure they look great now, yet I have that nagging feeling that current HDR is the new HD ready with Full HDR around the corner.

This is huge. Hell yes

You still need a HDR TV which only comes in 4k which basing off the User base the majority of users dont own one yet. Also i think the games have to be made especially for it since its a feature that is different to the HDR HDMi 2.0 setup.

Same goes with XB1S, not many will benefit from it
