Forums - General Discussion - Islamic holiday may potentially fall on 9/11- Edit: it is confirmed to be on 9/12

I've noticed all sorts of things have been scheduled for 9/11 the last few years, so it seems the date itself isn't that reviled anymore. I doubt this will be too big of an issue.

Of course, some Muslims may celebrate the anniversary of that attack, wish could get lumped in with the others observing the holiday. In the end, though, even though it might cause some anger briefly, people will move on to the next big story shortly thereafter.

muslims dont "party" during eid. they visit family and have a feast. thats it.

want some pot? i made a coffee.

The stigma with 9/11 will become increasingly less meaningful as years go by. Eventually another tragedy will take its place. People now, those who were born in the late 90s/early 00's like myself barely remember the event. I left preschool early that day. Thats it XD I dont remember the fear, the panic, anything. My gf also has no memories of that day. So as the years progress I think we'll see less and less care.

Note: Thats not to downplay what happened or anything. It's just I have very little connection to the event. For me it's more or less like the Titanic. It was an awful thing that happened. But it happened so long ago that its hard to feel as upset or affected as others who were more aware of what happened at the time

Honestly if your a muslim and you live in the US, you should show respect enough to atleast not be out partying on that day.

God I hope there isn't a huge attrocity on a day like Independence Day, Thanksgiving or Christmas...

September 11th isn't an off limits day to people celebrating something. Be respectful yes, but not to the point of "no, no party this day".

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

Well we won't stop caring about it. Most people remember 9/11 and it's probably one of the most significant events in the 21st century so far.

Only because media and government made it one, and acted accordingly. In terms of actual tragedy, it was not that big - more financial than anything else. In the same month, more americans died of car crashes than as consequence of the attack. Syria, a country a tenth of the size of the US, has more than half a 9/11 of civilians dying as byproduct of the war each month, currently, for example.

Bet with PeH:

I win if Arms sells over 700 000 units worldwide by the end of 2017.

Bet with WagnerPaiva:

I win if Emmanuel Macron wins the french presidential election May 7th 2017.

Its not a big deal.

Does anyone even care about 9/11 except people in the US?

Of the people I know, none really cares about it too much. People usually recognize its importance, more or less, but it generally seems to be Yet Another Bad Event in some remote country (in relation to us - I'm not saying the USA actually is somehow remote). And why should we, really? I don't see Americans grieving about terrorism or anything else bad anywhere else.
