Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Emily Rogers: NX Below XB1/PS4 In Power; Battery Life Is Not Great

There are also other things that Nvidia does that are pretty important to a mobile chip, like their tiling approach can save Nintendo massively in memory bandwidth ... which is vitally important for a mobile chip.

Tiling doesn't help with compute shaders as time goes on when more games are spending time in the compute shader and especially in the case of async compute ...

If bandwidth was such a scarce commodity you'd have better luck experimenting with deferred texturing, deferred attribute interpolation, exploiting MSAA compression for render targets, GPU compute triangle filtering, delta colour compression for render targets/vertex buffers and texture compression all together than what tiling alone can give you ...

AAA console developers don't want to deal a whole lot with the AMD vs Nvidia specifics in terms of optimizations either so some of the stuff that they automatically do on home consoles could really hurt the NX's performance if it was housing an Nvidia GPU which would only lower it's chances of getting ports ...

Regarding the size of NX game cartridges they will not be 32GB or 64GB as that is simply too expensive. It's likely they will be slightly larger on average as the generation before has been the case with all previous Nintendo cartridge generations.

One of the largest 3DS roms is xenoblade chronicles at 4GB and you can expect NX to be 4GB to 8GB at the beginning which is 32Gb and 64Gb (gigabits not gigabytes)

It's truly ridiculous to believe the carts will be 32GB and 64GB unless Nintendo are planning on selling games for $80 each on cartridge. This is especially true if the system only has 32GB of memory of which much will be taken by the system so in effect you can't store any games on the tablet itself and there will be no downloadable games. That really needs to be nipped in the bud as total rubbish.

The games will be much smaller than ps4, xbone and even some wii u games.

You can get bulk 32GB cards for like $5, Nintendo probably could score them for far cheaper than that. 3DS is early 2000s technology, using that as a baseline of what's possible today is pointless.

Luckily we will have revile of NX sometime in next couple of weeks.

Does she ever know when to shut up?

No, she wants to kill us all with these rumors.

She's not killing us, but she's damaging Nintendo.

how is she damaging Nintendo?

Ruining hype for their next system with her stupid rumors, with uncredited sources that might not even exist.

Irronically- The more acurate her info is, i could see it hurting the hype some-  but if her info is way off then it may increase the hype at reveal assuming the NX is something the market wants (whatever it may be)  --  If alot of people are expecting something like her reports and Nintendo reveals something very different i think it will create more hype-  But i think her and Eurogamer reports are prob "in the ball park" as far as acuracy-  I think there is more to the NX thean what they are reporting but generally they are prob on track ( but thats just my opinion)

Or Nintendo for announcing a system and then saying nothing for 18+ months might do that too. Good for the leakers. I hope they leak every single bit of information.

Do you  have some good info to make you  think that or is that your opinion

IMO if they don t reveal in September or early Oct they will be too close to the Christmas shopping season to reveal the NX

Not the same. The cards will be proprietory lower volume  ROM cards and not be mass market 32GB cards. New 3DS games are still coming out now.

They aren't going to release a tablet with 32GB memory that can't store a single downloadable game. The spec and screen resolution will seriously reduce code size compared to home consoles anyway.  So basically too expensive,  not required and doesn't work with the announced spec if true.
