So DF just did this big thing on 4k   gaming

Now I'm not even going to get into how much you need to have a setup that matches what they use to achieve all that and them saying it's now possible or affordable and how great it is. But this is what gets to me and what I've come to notice when it comes to PC gaming.

They are hypocrites.

Simply put, Since you need ridiculously powerful and expensive hardware to attain 4k gaming at any respectable framerate at ultra settings, certain concessions are being made.

Primarily, its ok for game to run at 30fps because they are in 4k.

I find that ridiculous cause of how console games are mostly pissed on for running at 1080p@30fps. PC gamers will talk up how they could run that game at 1080p@80fps or even 1440p at 60fps, but when it comes to 4k it's ok running it at 30fps?

I don't get it......

Am I the only one who thinks this drive for 4k gaming is a gross waste of resources? And that in the grand scheme of things it's one of the most irrelevant metrics to use and measure the quality of a gaming engine or a game period. I can think of at least 5 things I would rather see more of than a 4k resolution.

No, not for consoles at least, I think the power from Neo and Scorpio would be much better spent elsewhere.

People defending agendas usually are like that.

Fo many PC gamers, games aren't as important as the bragging rights behind the many numbers in their rig.

No. As someone whose primary platform is PC, I agree with you.

I just recently put together a computer capable of getting up to the 4k tier with decent fps. I find myself lowering to sub-4k just to get the higher frames though. So yea, I agree that the resources are wasted. However, it is the common theme to get the resolution higher and worry about the frames later for whatever reason.

I haven't seen the videos, but just because one site says that 4K@30fps is fine and acceptable, it doesn't mean that the whole PC community thinks that way.

For instance, the "old" Titan X, 980Ti and the GTX 1080 all can achieve those 4K@30fps in most games, but they aren't considered to be truly capable of gaming at 4K. The new Titan X is the first one that can reach those mystical 60fps most of the time.

Oh, and I wouldn't judge a whole community by what one site or group or users say or do. Or else, they'll do the same, and no one will win if that happens.

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

I thought the overall agreement was 60fps > all, even praise going to games running 720p/60fps rather than upping the resolution but at the cost of play-ability in some cases.

Either way, I'm a distance off gaming in 4k and even further off caring about it, PS4/Mid range PC/Vita/3DS running at whatever framerate and resolution they offer but with the games I love, all that matters to me.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

No, 4k is absolutely a waste of resources especially for gaming.

When they can start over sampling at 90/120 fps for vr that will be great. But were not even close, and so right now 4K constitutes little more than a dick measuring contest.

Edit: I should point out that it will eventually become the standard which is fine. But the push for it has been too strong considering the resources it requires it provides a pretty limited benefit.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

What? 4k is awesome if you have a 4k TV. Games will also be way better than with 1080p because you can spot enemies earlier than on 1080p as you can see way more clearly and you have way more details.
The picture itself is also of course better, not to add that HDR is only available at 4k.
Also people buying a 4k TV soon or already have want to have a native image on their TV, not something upscaled.
