Clipping, screen tear, and noticeable sub-30 frame dips all bug me. But my biggest annoyance might be with patches. Game installs within seconds! But then you gotta wait for a roughly 1 GB patch to download & install to play the game proper. You can't just bring a handful of games to a friend's house any longer, cuz each game not only eats up 40 GB of HDD, but each one requires downloading a huge patch too.

For many reasons I really wish consoles had never interbred with PC...

Whoa there, be careful with what you wish! All my PC games are always up-to-date, and I don't even remember when I've had to take part in updating them in any way. They get updated automatically in the background, and when I want to play, they're all up-to-date. If anything, you want consoles to come closer to PC in that regard.

The moment consoles internet connectivity and HDDs was the moment these things became a problem. It could have been and still could be avoided by the console companies setting policies to restrict what games can do with the HDD and how they update, but they both improve the games in some way so there's no interest in restricting those things. Unfortunately getting to play is harder with installations and updates... Don't modern consoles really have auto-update yet though?

I wish they'd fix shipping games incomplete and riddled with bugs for us to test like we're unpaid testers.

Bad AI, especially in strategy games. What really bugs me is that it feels like nothing has been done about it, there's still huge issues that have been present for over a decade that haven't been fixed. Such as the AI not knowing how to boat in every single Paradox game.

Although I guess it wouldn't be the same if it were fixed, goofy AI is all a part of the fun of these games. Plus then you wouldn't be able to conquer the world as the Ryukyu Islands.

This 1,000%! Fucking hell, I've missed many important cutscenes because I accidentally pressed A or X or whatever x.x

I really don't understand why anyone would make either of those mistakes. Well, I guess I can sort of understand the first one, but I still don't agree with it. But the second one, it's a simple UI design decision, and it should be blatantly obvious to every game dev that people are going to make mistakes, and they're going to miss cutscenes they want to watch unless precautions are taken against it.

FF12 had a good system in place so you didn't miss cutscenes. As did Persona 4

Hmm, I can't really think of any problems I have with issues of games. I guess invisible walls are pretty annoying. If there is space with looks like you can walk to, but 'can't' do to a 'wall' they should at least have something blocking, or just a dead end into a wall.

Maybe it's just me.... but I'll go with level design. Eg.

Stack of wooden chairs blocking your path.

Rocket launcher not being able to blow a hole in a wooden door. Hell in anything, but I'll give them a pass for everything else. But come on!!! I need to get a key when I have a rocket launcher equipped?

Red barrels with conveniently placed enemies around them.

Indestructible cover.

Regenerative health (this is not level design per say, but taking health management out if games is what I feel to be one of the biggest flaws modern day gaming has inherited.

Yeah, a lot of games have these days. I think the first one I noticed to have it was MGS4. On Playstation, Start to pause and then X seems like an excellent way to do it. Holding X would probably be OK too, since holding a button accidentally is much harder than pressing it quickly. But Start + X is better, I think, because it implies being able to pause cutscenes. Oh, pausing cutscenes should totally be a thing too!

AI is a pretty complex thing to do. It's especially tough in RTS games, because there's typically a ton of units, distances are long, and of course because it runs in real-time so there isn't really that much time for complex calculations. And strategy games in general can have pretty complex situations from the AI's point of view, so it's hard to even analyze what's going on. It's probably doable at this point, but I imagine it's still not simple. I'm not saying I'm happy with the way things are, but I kind of understand. Also, I guess AI isn't really that much of a focus because you don't get much to show by focusing on AI, and everything seems multiplayer-focused these days.

Updates sometimes happen automatically, others don't. My main complaint is how plug & play has died, outside of accessories.

Don't forget the conveniently placed chest high walls everywhere. Nothing more immersion breaking than a beautiful handcrafted environment littered with cling to walls everywhere you look. Guess there will be a shoot out here... any moment now.
