Licensed games, espcially on consoles, seem to have died off in the last decade. Go back to the early 2000s and every major film release had one (give or take). Now they tend to be minor handheld games or apps. The main exceptions being non-timed releases like Telltales games and the Lego series.
Those 2 Simpsons games hit when the series what still at peak popularity. A game could still do well, but its difficult to translate a sitcom into a game. Hit and Run was basically a GTA clone a very good one and I loved it), but the other was very all over the place. Plus I think EA are happy to push Tapped Out.
The South Park games show they can work but I cant see the same formula working for the Simpsons. Then youve got the Family Guy game. Unfortnately, Incould see another Simpsons game turning out more like that quality wise.
I do like V-Rocks suggestion of a Rick and Morty game. The scope for that series means a game could have so much potential.
