Just came across this article where Steam and Sony are offering refunds for people who bought No Man's Sky regardless of playtime. Anyone here who will be asking for a refund?

At first I was going to keep it even with the missing gameplay features, bugs and glitches but then I changed my mind. It's been 2.5 weeks since launch and in that time:

1) there has been no indication as to what we will and won't get;

2) what will be free and what they will charge for;

3) from all additions will be free to some we will have to pay for.

In addition to the above, whilst I chose to support this developer at launch, with all the flip flopping and lack of transparency, I may have to pay for features that should have been part of the base game. Those who buy the game in a month probably will not only get a better game, but will probably pick it up for half price due to all the issues.

This is for me one of those rare occasions where the under dog developer has screwed it's supporters at a high cost to both parties.

How do you feel and will you be asking for a refund?

UPDATE 1:

Okay so I rang uo today and here is the long and short of it:

1) they will only refund immediately if it's within the 14 day purchase period.

If it isn't then:

2.1) you need to email hello games on their contact page with why you want a refund;

2.2) get a automatic reply and email it to help@uk.playstation.com with your reference number;

2.3) the admin team will then make a decision on refunding you.

3) there is no way to escalate the call other than via a call back.

4) Playstation Supports stance is that Hello Games need to be the ones responsible since they are the developer which is why after 14 days the procedure must go via Hello Games, even if Sony supported the product, made it a console exclusive and we're the retailer on psn for it.

Will update if and when I get a call back.

UPDATE 2:

Steam has changed their policy for refunds on NMS stating there won't be any special exemptions when requesting refunds. More at the link.

UPDATE 3:

This morining I woke up to an email after having been promised a call back for over a week. I was even asked whether I would prefer a call back or an email. Anyhu, below is the resonse I was given. The email goes on about how wonderful a job Sony thinks Hello Games has done and how beyond the 14 day refund policy they will not do anything at all.

1) the first call was by far the worst call I have had. Flat out refused to acknowledge the problems in being lied to by their cust.serv, about how they haven't rang me back and eventually cutting me off when I pointed out I was given conflicting information from him and his colleagues.

2) the second call I made had a bit of a calmer guy, but it feels like they have been given strict orders to deny everything and just go in circles about 14 days refund policy to the point they won't even acknowledge how bad their service has been, how even their manager has refused to acknowledge the issue and the refusal to put into writing that although the game has missing feautres, they won't issue a refund unless we take legal action.

No, I easily got my $30 dollars out of it already. Also interested to what they bring to the game with updates.

Sony? Didn't know you could get refunds on PSN. :-O

I hope that once they've fixed the performance issues and bugs the game has they come out and give some sort of roadmap for it's future development. They detail what they plan to add for free, then beyond that they can look at paid for DLC further down the line. If anything this mess will hopefully stress to them the importance of communication and messaging and being clear on the game going forward.

For me a refund doesn't make sense, I've put more than enough hours to justify the money I spent on it, I wasn't disappointed with it and am still playing it albeit not as frequently.

But that's just me personally, it makes sense for some people to refund because undoubtedly when new features are being added you will be able to pick up the game cheaper.

Don't ruin the moment

Currently Playing: Rocket League (PC/PS4), Dead Cells (PC)

I think I won't I played it enough, I can imagine people would, the game actually hardfroze my ps4 right, it was deffenitely in bad shape on launch. But I have bought worst games, gameplay wise, in the past and never asked a refund, so now that they fixed the crashes I do feel like I paid to much but I am not angry about it.

If I paid $30 I wouldn't mind, but I paid the full whack $60. It's not just about time invested, it's the over quality and gameplay of the game, what we were promised and what we got.

I don't want to end up paying for features that the game should have come with to begin with and I'm afraid this is looking very likely to happen.

I've put about 50 hours into the game, but I can't make a direct hours to money spent correlation justly. E.g.

1) I paid £15.99 for Alienation at launch and I've have over 100hrs of game time.

2) I paid $60 for GOW3 at launch and got a game that I beat within 9hrs, but those 9hrs of gaming were pure a one off experience.

At the moment, for me it's the difference between paying £4.50 for a Mc D's meal and £30 for a prime steak meal. At the moment it feels like I have been promised a steak meal and i certainly have paid for one, but I've been given a Mc D's happy meal instead with the promise I may get a freebie toy if I spend some more money or if they feel like it.

do they get the refund cash or is it just store credit? because if it's just store credit it's not really a refund.

Not entirely sure. I'll be happy with either. I've read on a site it's store credit.

Hello Games needs to communicate with the public over these issues. Because of this they are compounding the problem.
Personally for me I'm really enjoying it and worth the hard earned I paid for it but the issues the game had at launch was unacceptable, gamers are entitled to a refund.

$30?. The game costs $60. Unless your saying you got around 30 dollars value out of a 60 dollar game so far?.

I paid $30 for it, well actually $29 and some change. Best Buy gamers club for the win.
