Well recently in my country, Pakistan, The leader of a major regional party,MQM, in a drinken state called my country a cancer and a haven for terrorists and basically commited treason. He resides in London so he cant be tried. He also called his party workers for violence and to attack media houses who were banned by court to stream his speeches. Anyway when people criticize the army of my country, some very extremely "patriotic" people in my country claim its treason to criticize the army. My question is would criticizing a department of a country be called treason? In this way you cannot criticize the NA the courts or the beureaucracy or anything. But its not, so why is it "treason" to criticize the armed forces? Any pakistanis please respond

It's not treason to criticise anything, democratic nations are inherently critical of their government, if you are not allowed to be critical of the government then it's basically a dictatorship.

No.

I work for the government. You can criticize us all you want (even if it's mostly bullshit....), but it's no treason.

Critizicing and accusing something are two different thing. When I say that Pakistan is a shithole, then that's not criticizing.
When I say that they should do something against terrorism in their country, because it seems they don't do anything, then that can be seen as criticizing it.

Free speech is one thing. Insulting someone else is not. But, what he did is not treason.

I'll just leave this here.

No, what he did wasn't so much treason, as it was expressing his displeasure with the state Pakistan is in.

It basically was in context. A while ago he also said he would make Karachi a country but later apologized

Pakistan has always been a bit wild west in terms of politics. They screwed the founders daughter and best friend pretty much immediately after forming the country.

From assassinations to military rulers, leaders being picked for the oddest of reasons, it wouldn't come as a surprise if the country charges people with treason for the smallest of reasons.

However, it's Pakistan. It's a third world country surrounded by a lot of issues. My country just told everyone to look left so we can observe traingate whilst the PM destroyed the human rights act for its people and put in a surveillance act in its place.
