Forums - Gaming Discussion - No Man's Sky erases discoveries after 2 weeks *NOW FIXED

We all know just how unbelievable terrible No Man's Sky has been. The creator's lied, the game is a wreck, and already 90% of the user base has quit the game for whatever reason killed it for them. But now ANOTHER huge fault in the game has been found, and this one destroys any little appeal the game still had.

Multiple users have reported going back to visit past planets and locations in No Man's Sky that they had discovered and named only to find that the names were gone. An exact time frame for deleted names has not been determined, but the players reported that it was about 2 weeks since they visited those locations. It has happened with too many people to just be a coincidental bug, and given the games track record, it seems like this was done on purpose. This is too ridiculous to even believe, not that No Man's Sky did it, but that ANY game developer would launch a game and have it be this bad. I dont think anybody even has a leg to stand on anymore when trying to defend the game. After almost every anticipated feature was cut, the one thing people were able to still do was explore and name their discoveries.... and they can not even do that now because they will just be deleted anyways. It is now just a game where you endlessly drift in space for no reason at all...

What do you guys think about this? For me now, this game has lost all credibility, any reputation the creator had has been destroyed, an this game will go down as one of the biggest disappointments in gaming ever. I dont think I would pick this game up now even if it were free.

UPDATE: since posting this the original person who discovered the bug has been able to get the game to display his old discoveries. He did this by redownloading and reloading the game. Overall this was probably just due to server lag, but it still remains as a nother bug in the game, and an annoying one at that.

I love the game and have two pretty sturdy legs. I'd love to know how they managed to find an old planet 2 weeks later, I couldn't even find the planet I left after one warp jump. I'd also like to know how they differentiate between 'wiping' the data and the game simply not uploading their discoveries, something that was largely patched but still happens occasionally. Still, no complaints here, I'm busy looking for clues to find the true centre. It's one huge puzzle folks and it's setting the NMS community on fire at the moment.

The PS5 Exists.

Loll the more I hear about the game, the more glad I am that I got a refund

Is that really an issue when most people won't play longer than one week anyway?

You always steal the savage posts! Damn it!

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

Meh, if this is true that'd still be least of it's problems. Such a shame how things turns with No Man's Sky. It was once a game I was highly looking forward to, now it's just another game I urge people to only buy used if at all.

oh come off it, anyone who feels persistent enough about it could eventually backtrack to an old planet they named. It might take a while but you underestimate how dedicated people can be. and whether its the game simply screwing up and not loading properly (doubt that would happen in repeat cases) OR that they were deleted, either is a serious issue

If this is true then that's just awful though. One of the biggest things aboutthe game was the idea that you would discover and be able to name things and make your 'mark' on the universe. just a load of BS, one thing after another

Oh wow, you really do hate this game.

I also love the game and have some sturdy legs. I agree it has some flaws, several of them maybe, but for what it is I found it to be pretty fun and addictive.

Now about this one issue: I looked this up to see if it was actually wiping out everything you discovered, or just wiping out the names of your discoveries - because if it was the latter, personally I wouldn't mind as much. And apparently, according to the Reddit post, it's not just only the lesser issue of the latter, but it was also in fact something that was already fixed.

So yeah, that's that. Stop spreading hate and go do something better with your life.

a huge part of the wonder of exploration is BEING the discoverer and naming things. If nothing you did remains behind then its pretty irrelevant

This game was suppose to be amazing. Goddammit Sean!

while i do admit i am not a fan of this game (obviously), this was not exactly a hate post, but more of a disappointment post. mainly what i was trying to get across was that already at launch a lot of promised features were not present, and now even the ones that are present do do not live up to their name. its like if you were expecting to recieve a sandwich but instead got a piece of bread. the disappointment would cause me to lose interest, just as No Man's Sky has.

but maybe you could shine some light then. i was under the influence that making the discoveries and categorizing them was the one thing left that attracted people to this game. but if it really is that fun for you, maybe you could provide a few reasons for why you enjoy it
