Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Are you still impressed by Zelda Breath of the Wild?

Absolutely 100% still impressed.

It's hard to get impressed by video games these days.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

First time I ever looked at it. Nothing great from a pure performance standpoint. Looks good enough for Wii-U, but that's the highest compliment it deserves. Would like to see it in person, and closer to release with more polish added.

There are parts of the game that are very pretty, but there are other parts where it looks painfully constrained by its hardware (low quality textures and geometry in some areas).

Dude are you joking?  I'm guessing you didn't play the likes of The Witcher 3 because I bet the Witcher 3's expansion packs are better than this new handheld Zelda title.

While it may not boast as many high end graphical features as Fast Racing Neo or Art of Balance, from a holistic point of view Breath of the Wild is probably the single most technically demanding game on the system.

To use a similar open world exclusive as a reference point, Xenoblade Chronicles X was already pushing the Wii U hardware pretty hard, and Breath of the Wild uses a number of more expensive techniques compared to XCX; realtime instead of cubemapped reflections, fully dynamic shadows, complex physics systems where XCX had practically none, etc.

How exactly is it a handheld Zelda if it is releasing on a console?

Yup. Graphics should mean little in terms of being impressed. The graphics themselves are stylistic, not realistic. Is it graphically impressive, maybe not but that's in part due to not being ran on unreal, and them using a stylistic art style. But everything else is impressive. A game of that size, and breadth on Wii U is amazing. The combat is stellar, their physics engine is very impressive. Look up the digital foundry analysis on BotW, get enlightened.

the witcher 3 is amazing and my favorite rpg this gen so far, the thing is that when I play the witcher 3 I feel a sensation of deja vu with other games. When I play a new zelda game, zelda is zelda. And now this game with the zelda formula and the western rpg formula, only good things could happen.

I love the artstyle and look of the game.

I'm sure the gameplay will be very good aswell.
