Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Are you still impressed by Zelda Breath of the Wild?

I don't think there's anything particularly impressive in BOTW per se. But seeing all those elements combined in a Zelda game is what has me hyped for the game.

I really have a hard time with people praising it like it re-invented the wheel, and that of course because it's a Nintendo game, all those ideas and implementation of them are godly and have never been done before with such grace and finesse and blah blah blah. Really, there's nothing I've never seen in this elsewhere.

That being said, I'm a huge Zelda fan. Not because it is an innovative franchise, but because of a lot of elements that combine into a package that satisfy my needs for that kind of game. Compelling combat, atmosphere, puzzles, the way you progress through the game via new items and equipment--> with older locations holding new secrets once you get certain items later on, the music, the actual way you get stronger over time by finding hidden treasures after solving secret puzzles by following obscure leads from seemingly random npcs, etc...

I have to say this is the best looking Zelda game since ALTTP, from a gameplay perspective. The game looks really fun to play, is pleasing to the eye, and I can't wait to finally play through it.

I'm not a zelda fan, but that is exactly my opinion. The game looks really good, it seems like an exciting zelda (at least but probably not only for fans), with both new ideas and the traditional quality of the serie, and I like the fact that Nintendo scaled up things... but really there is nothing I find impressive. Especially if we restrict to the current topic (visual and audio), there are clearly more impressive games, even on equivalent hardware.

Had to make the obligatory fix.

Dunno why anyone would even get hyped with the visuals... it's on the freaking WiiU.

I love the Wii U... but this is a VERY accurate statement.

The system is good and honestly I think they can push it a little further with time and investment but the clock has stopped and Nintendo is moving on, doing just enough for this game so they can move on to the NX. A shame but even the Wii, GC or Xbox weren't pushed as far as it could have been. But Zelda has evolved into a series that its look is one that doesn't need to have the highest polygon count or polish for the game to still look stunning in action.

I wouldn't say impressed, but I'm still looking forward to it greatly.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

A year ago?It was revealed this year, you know.

Its still as visual impressive as it was when reveal to be honest. And yeah, still as hyped, if not more, for it.

You mean when we got the clip of the machine chasing him down in the field?

The real gameplay graphics were shown for the first time this E3, nothing has changed since then.

I can't possibly come close to the Witcher 3 unless I'm missing something and the game is going to be a complete reinvention, even if the gameplay is vastly improved with little fetch questing and insteand in depth chucky side quests and vastly less formulaic game structure the story is still...well, Zelda.

Better than what in which direction?

People should just stop comparing anything.

Witcher 3's combat sucks compared to Dark Souls but is way better than Dragon Age Inquisitions. But, that comparison doesn't make sense even though all three are RPG's. They do totally different things.

Same goes for Breath of the Wild. As far as i can tell after playing it's really open world, it's still an action adventure and you can do lots of sttuff all the time. But as it looks BotW will at no point be as storydriven as a Witcher game nor have those fine story details.

Graphics: It looks great artstyle wise.

Technically, while actually impressive for Wii U it has some issues. Like aliasing, some muddy low res textures, low detail trees or somehow unfitting normal maps.

Now, it comes without loading, tons of grass and very few draw distance problems, you might never notice them actually.

The overall look is great though.

If you are not impressed by this...
Well I feel sorry for you :)

Nintendo is the only company that can still impress me.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

Who is saying it is better?
