Forums - Gaming Discussion - New PlayStation Handheld Announcement Coming At PlayStation Meeting (RUMOUR)

I highly doubt this to be true, but I would love a new Sony handheld. I've definitely enjoyed my Vita over my PS4 this gen so far.

Just make a console that runs digital versions of PS1, PS2, PSP, PS Vita games, that can also be connected to a TV and can be played remotely with DS3/DS4. For the right price I could see it doing well.

So PlayStation TV then.

PSTV doesn't play PS2 games.... or even a lot of Vita games... and it's not a handheld.

If it was a handheld that played ps1/ps2/psp/vita games upscaled to 1080p I would definitely get it, but I still don't think it would do exceptionally well, it would need it's own software not just old games.

Their 1st time was a tremendous success...

...for piracy.

Psp has 300+m software sales recorded here, not including digital downloads since the Playstation store was available on the PSP in its later years.

To put that in perspective the PS4 so far has sold 260m software (with obviously a ton of digital games too) But even the 3ds which doesn't have as much digital sales has moved just 246m games so yeah... could say that the PSP sold a lot of units for piracy but at the same time each console sold had at least 4 legit games sold along with it.

Sony should stick to consoles and not a money sink like the Vita.

money sink right? i'd love to see that evidence that Sony lost money on the Vita at all. Is there another Sony console with a higher attach rate than the Vita?

i have a feeling people who don't own a vita have a lot of observations to make about the handheld, especially how many games are or aren't being released for it.

on the topic though, I would get a raging feeling in my body if a new portable with L2/R2 and upgraded specs, able to play PS3 and older titles on the go. the thought of going through demon's souls on the go makes that raging feeling even more uncomfortable to bear in public :)

What if it is a new vita model?

Might be this.  I wouldn't mind a successor because I love my original vita but I can't see Sony risking it again because of how the handheld market has been affected.

A remodelled indie focused vita at 100-150 could be attractive.  Please add r3 r2 and l3 l2 buttons for remote play! (Beaten!)

Personally I would love if it comes with a HD or the ability to use any memorycard thingy. To warm to look up the name XD.

Yeah it probably have made some money especially with the crazy expensive memorycards but compared to PS4 the profit is probably not worthy to invest in a new risky handheld and honestly with Neo/Slim/VR coming up I prefer they spend their time on the consoles.

People have the incorrect notion that Sony dropped the Vita because of how it sold, when they unofficially dropped it before it was even out. Reason being the high budget of making home-console-like games approaching home console levels and not making sense doing that on two separate systems. When they saw the bills on Uncharted GA and Killzone Merc building up they already knew "yeah this isn't going to work, bad idea". Why do you think some companies that gave the PSP pretty damn good support either didn't give Vita any from the start or cheaped out (SE and Konami being examples), they saw the writing on the wall before Sony did. Higher costs, same/lower revenue. Unsustainable.
If something like this exists it's either a cheap low end Nintendo-style handheld meant for direct competition or it's something that is somehow going to tie in with "sharing a library" with PS4. There are no other possibilities.

This honestly made me laugh XD. Don't get me wrong though, I love the Vita and hope for a successor too. But all the recent rumours almost made me believe a bit. Well cant trust until they announce it.

On another note, assuming Trinity is the code name for PSP3/Vita 2, it does lend some credence to the handheld rumour. PS Neo, Morpheus and the last Trinity. There's definitely a project called Trinity somewhere. And the codename Trinity more or less refers to the number 3 (correct me if I'm wrong). PS4k and PS VR have nothing to do with the number 3.

So the only number 3 related with a hardware is the possible release of a handheld successor to the PS Vita / PSP 2( in a way) which is a PSP3/Vita 2 (but still the 3rd handheld of Sony).

LOL . I know Blog Hokanko. That's jus a outsider’s opinion.

SD cards and an HDMI out and maybe it could work. No interest in playing games like Uncharted on a 4" screen
