Forums - Gaming Discussion - No PS4 NEO this year?

It will be released this year or they would just announce it at PSX and not make their own event and reveal it so early.

This thing has October written all over it.

MS kind of have Sony in a jam here. If Sony release an iterative console this year or early next year then MS can simply call the Scorpio the XB2 and so the perception will be they're leading in the 9th generation. If Sony decide to release the Neo this year or early next year and try to one up MS by calling it the PS5 in order to try and get an early lead in the 9th generation then all MS has to do is follow through on the iterative 'label' and make it look as if Sony went back on their word. It's actually quite a clever move.

What would make it insteresting is if the PS4 slim was a 4.2tf system and the Neo is the 5.5tf system. It's doubtful but it would be a good move.

This is not a new generation so stop calling it Ps5, ps5 will arrive in 2020 and Ps4 is 8th Generation.

And no, Sony isn't worried, Neo will outsell Scorpio 2 to 1 and the last time I check  sales drive devs wich drives games wich drives consumers.

I just don't really see Scorpio being labelled as a "Next Gen" machine over an upgraded console much of an advantage... There's nothing to stop Sony from marketing the Neo as the "Next Generation of Gaming" while still having all the games playable on the Original PS4.

MS would just counter with 'true nextt gen console'. However you look at it MS are in the better position right now as far as next Christmas goes. I'm not saying they'll do better than Sony next year, that's not guarenteed, but let's say it gives them a 'better shot'. That's if the Scorpio doesn't turn out to be a PC of course.

Better position? They are being outsold 2to1 and Scorpio will have a 1 year disadvantage against Neo, explain me how they are in such advantage?

Ps3 also was in advantage over 360 and look what happened, dude market doesn't work like that, stop pretending it does.

Sony has the advantage, Sony is the leader and while that does not change, Microsoft has no advantage.

I just don't see that as being as much of an advantage as you do. PR is PR, Sony could then also use the "True next gen console" tagline for the Neo, what's to stop them? From a PR perspective I don't see Microsoft being in any stronger of a position than Sony, they both have statements to be made.

If they call it the XB2 then they'll have a 9th gen lead for as long as it takes Sony to release a PS5. If MS simply keep the label 'iterative' then you'd be right but I'm speculating on a possible move from MS. To me it makes sense for MS to bate and switch. This will be giving Sony a bit of a problem at the moment because they'll also be aware of what MS could do.

And how is changing the name of a console and labelling it a "9th gen machine" an advantage? The NX will be a '9th gen machine', will that give it a significant advantage over ps4/xbo?

Generations are meaningless at this point. So MS have a '9th generation' machine and Sony do not so what? And when Sony got around to releasing their PlayStation 5 or whatever they'd have a huge advantage over MS then... There's really no big advantage to be had from it.

Let's just say I agree with Colin Moriarty. Perception is everything in the console business. Like I said, I'm not saying this 'definitely' gives MS the advantage, just a 'better shot'. If they don't do something then they're done. Sony are in an interesting position too. A cheaper PS4 will broaden their market whilst a Neo will cement the current market. On paper it appears Sony are in the driving seat and the only move I can see as viable for MS is to do what I've suggested. It was a smart move to announce the Scorpio in light of their current situation. I used to think it wasn't but I've given it more thought. There WILL be a slowing down of XB1s sales as the release date of Scorpio grows nearer. That's another reason why calling it the XB2 might be wise. It 'could' create renewed enthusiasm from the press and console fans.

One thing I will guarentee: The press will constantly discuss whether the Scorpio is a true next gen console while the Neo is only a half step. GUARENTEED. Watch that narrative take hold - trust me. Forums will be full of fans calling the Neo only a 'half step'. 'The Scorpio's step child' is likely to be the go to insult.

It would be stupid of them not release this year. Regardless of power difference they have the larger, more popular brand, and getting a year head start on the Scorpio is going to be a huge advantage.

Considering there are actual Slims out there before Sony even mentioned it to anyone, I'm assuming they're doing a Nintendo style release for both consoles (in other words, announcing them a month before release). I still expect to see the Neo this year.
