Forums - Nintendo Discussion - GoldenEye Is 19 Years Old Today! Nintendo's "Coolest" Game Ever?

I didn't play it for the first time till about 2010 so I couldn't really get into it or appreciate it.

Happy birthday, Goldeneye! It was the game that made shooters on consoles actually relevant! I would say that it also played an important role in Halo's success, along with Perfect Dark. Would CE have been as successful as it was if shooters were still a somehow niche genre on consoles?

Great game. Goldeneye and Half Life were the FPS to play that gen. I did however think Perfect Dark is N64s coolest game and possibly the game of the generation in my opinion. It did everything and still today does thinks better than most modern FPS games.

To me Goldeneye surpassed Nintendo's philosofy of gamedesign at the time. The replay value (single and multi) was much higher than Nintendo's own IP's. The shooting and the bullet-to-body impact are still unsurpassed.

Yes I remember it well, my friends and I played it a lot.

Nowadays it´s strange to know that as far as home consoles go, Nintendo was once king in the FPS multiplayer arena, a title that would later be claimed by the original Xbox.

I liked the game. The movie itself was my favorite Pierce Brosnan Bond film.

Yeah, it's a shame Brosnan never got a good script for a Bond movie after GoldenEye again, I still like him as Bond a lot. That last one, Die Another Day started off promising but then devolved into the shittiest Brosnan Bond ever.

I recall certain strengths from Goldeneye, but script definitely wasn't one of them. Perhaps you should watch the movie again, it was definitely one of the weakest Bond scripts.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I was in college and did not play it because I was making something of myself sir!

l <---- Do you mean this glitch Gribble?  If not, I'll keep looking.

I am on the other side of my sig....am I warm or cold?

Marco....

I personally didnt care for the game but it was very impressive at launch. Most shooters at the time felt like floating guns shooting at 2D sprites. But Goldeneye felt more realistic, cutting edge stuff for the time.

The N64 felt mostly targeted to casuals, but it found a big audience from shooting fans as well. PS1 and Saturn FPS games simply werent as ambitious.

I played the hell out of this game! Loved it! I loved playing multiplayer and putting on the invisible command cheat....until you know when someone cheats and looks at your screen and sees that you're invisible lol

Smash is an infinitely more successful "cool" game than Goldeneye ever was.

Unless you're only using "cool" as an irrelevant aesthetic qualifier. Then sure.
