Forums - Nintendo Discussion - NX Buyers: 1080P Or Better Detail 720P?

From what we know of the Pascal Tegra (X2) it's about 625 GFLOPS apparently with 50GB memory bandwidth ... that is pretty great for a mobile chip, but it's a good notch below even an XBox One.

For NX potential buyers how would you prefer developers utilize the Tegra chip for "TV mode" ...

1.) Wii U level graphics at 1080p (cleaner, sharp image quality)

or

2.) Closer to XB1/PS4 level graphics but 720p resolution (worse image quality but better graphical effects in general)

Are Zelda: BoTW graphics at 1080P good enough for you or would you prefer a developer to lower the resolution and increase the visual detail?

i guess it depends on the game, im not really a graphics junky, more of an artstyle+polish fan so i think many Wii U games look amazing and even some 3DS games look good.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

I'm a potential NX buyer, I'm not a Nintendo fan but I think 720 is best for the NX. Nintendo have never been about the graphics but more about good artistic direction. 720 would help them do this better and run smoothely.

I'm inclined to agree, although 1080p sure is nice.

I would much prefer 720p with superior detail/shaders/effects.

Also, this thread needs a poll.

It will certainly have more power than the WiiU, so
If it is a portable, 720p (with a 720p screen to avoid scaling artifacts),
because the less GPU power needed, more battery you got.

720p with better graphics. I could honestly care less about higher resolution. I mean, it'd be nice, but more detail seems better to me.

Honestly, I still don't get the whole "1080p vs 720p is night and day" claims.

I own a mix of both 1080p and 720p games, and I can jump from playing Captain Toad Treasure Tracker at 720p to Smash Bros U at 1080p, or Rayman Legends at 1080p to Tropical Freeze at 720p, and the difference is negligible.

I mean, I get it if you're playing on a monitor 30cm in front of your face, or on a 70" TV, but when I sit on my couch 3 meters from my 48" LED, 720p looks fine.

I'm not a guaranteed buyer, but right now Nintendo interests me the most out of the console companies. Anyway, 720p with otherwise better graphics. 1080p is just a crisper picture, but 720p is already good enough for almost everything. 1080p would be nice but I'd rather get otherwise better graphics. And adding in another choice, I'd also sacrifice those extra effects and all that for 60 frames per second instead of the common 30. It just looks and feels so much smoother.

720p with 60 FPS

Rather get better third party support than better visuals.

The truth, it has arrived!

never really cared that much. art style trumps graphical limitations. I suppose 1080p if it means it will give visual artists a larger palette to create. I'm actually more for 720 if it somehow deters developers from trying to make graphics "photo-realistic".
