Forums - Gaming Discussion - Five games I think Nintendo should develop to sell the NX

They definitely need a new Mario Galaxy or direct sequel to Mario 64.  Beyond that an immediate, more expansive sequel to Splatoon should be released within the console's 1st year in order to keep the momentum of that new franchise going.  They've already got Zelda for launch so that's covered, a new Pilotwings or F-Zero would be nice to round things out.

Beyond all that though, how about partnering up with 3rd parties not just for exclusive content, but to advertise any multiplatform AAA game on the NX the way Sony and M$ do with all the big titles every year.  This goes along way into bringing in a bigger audience that isn't just geared towards Nintendo-centric software, and this is what Nintendo needs to be successful in the long run with the NX.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

I knew right away the Wii U was going to fail because it didn't have much appeal. The launch titles were weak and none of the games were really "killer apps." A huge example of this is Super Mario 3D World - a great game, but it should be the Mario game released at the end of the console's life cycle, not as the first console Mario. The Wii was FULL of killer apps - Twilight Princess at launch, Mario Galaxy, Smash Bros. Brawl, Mario Kart Wii, Wii Sports, Wii Fit, Warioware, Big Brain Academy, DKC Returns, Just Dance... damn I love the Wii!

Anyway, here are a list of games I think Nintendo should get for the NX to make it a success:

1. Super Mario 64 sequel. Seriously.... I love the Galaxy games (Galaxy 1 and 2 are actually my favorite Mario games), but I'd love to see a full on sequel to Mario 64 with no water or gravity gimmicks. 3D World was a disappointment because it was the first HD Mario. Mario should be all about what the system can do and 3D World failed in that regard - many viewed it as a sequel to 3D Land. If Nintendo does a full fledged 3D Mario platformer it could be a system seller.

2a. Pokemon MMORPG. Pokemon Go has proven Pokemon is still popular. A Pokemon MMORPG with Pokemon Go connectivity could be a huge hit. It could also sell the system like hot cakes.

2b. ANIMAL. CROSSING. GO! This smartphone app could be a HUGE hit for Nintendo. Animal Crossing is very casual gamer friendly. A lot of people will be skeptical that smartphone apps will help the NX but I think if utilized correctly the smartphone apps could help the NX. Animal Crossing is just begging for a sequel with smartphone app compatbility.

3. Retro Studios first person shooter (or WRPG). Nintendo used to be the king of FPS (the N64), so this would be a return to that era. Retro Studios is hugely talented and could be the next Rare if Nintendo let them. When they made DKC Tropical Freeze I facepalmed so hard my nose broke - a game no one really asked for. Returns was great because there was demand for a new DKC game, but that was good enough. Retro should be commissioned to make the NX's Goldeneye.

4. A new IP in the mold of Splatoon. Nintendo has a strong lack of new IPs and I can see why people get annoyed by it. Splatoon should have been either a launch title or first year title for the Wii U, or hell delayed for the NX. It'd be cool though to see Nintendo go for a couple more new IPs with the love, care, and advertising as Splatoon. Splatoon definitely hangs with the best of Nintendo's IPs. Give us more material for Smash Bros. NX!

5. A western developed killer app. Let's face it, western games have pretty much taken over, so for Nintendo to make the NX a huge success they need a western RPG or shooter or action adventure game. They should get a huge western developer like Rockstar or Bethesda to make a killer app for the NX. Kind of like what MS did with Gears of War for the Xbox 360.

Bayonetta, Star Fox, F-Zero, Pikmin, etc. etc. are cool games but they don't sell. The NX will have the typical Mario Kart, Zelda, and Smash Bros. but I think they need to think outside the box like they did for the Wii.

Thoughts? Other games you think they should make?

LMAO! Nintendo "should" develop this fantasy list I'm dreaming about, disregarding any risks and costs associated with them.

-Nintendo has been a risk averse company IP wise since the Gamecube days. A Western killer IP by Rockstar or Bethesda would set back Nintendo 100 million, probably times 3x or 4x if by their A teams.

-Also Nintendo doesnt much care what Westerners develop, thats why 1. they let Rare die and sold its carcass to Microsoft 2. Retro who had the potential to become Nintendo's Naughty Dog has regressed to making 2D Donkey Dong games

-A real Pokemon MMORPG would also cost more than 100 million to develop and maintain with updates.

-New IPs like Splatoon don't just happen, it has to be invented and designed first. They can't just wish a new creative game like Splatoon and bam it happens.

And yet its probably the best platformer on the Wii U, and really good game.

When I read that I was like "wtf? I love tropical freeze".

I hope they do another DKC for the NX.

I wholeheartly agree they should make a new Mario 64 or Galaxy, or hell both.

Series Id like to see Nintendo do new games in:

1. Mario 64

2. Mario RPG

3. Golden Sun

4. Kid Icarus

5. Animal Crossing

But also, F-zero, metroid,punch out...

I accurately predicted the Wii U was going to fail. I did let the hype get to me a little bit (my original prediction was 25 million units sold) but once I saw Mario 3D World I knew the Wii U was done.

And Nintendo is going to need to appeal to the west if they want the NX to do well.  Period.

And a Pokemon MMORPG would bring in a billion easily.

And games like Splatoon is exactly what Nintendo should be doing. They need 3-4 new IPs with that impact on the NX.

If Nintendo listens to me the NX will sell fairly well.

I don't think any game will give Nintendo that big boost in sales to compete against Sony or MS until they create the next Wii. A console that will have a gimmick that will get the masses buying it for whatever reason.

Since the Gamecube days, Nintendo has gone in a direction where they have only appealed to core fans. Several generations of games will not abandon Xbox or PS for a Nintendo console unless Nintendo can produce a console that has what they want.

Nintendo don't invest big like the other two. They do not create high end hardware. They don't keep up with third parties because they can't.

However, what Nintendo must do is continue to cater to their core fanbase or they are in danger of losing them as well. They need to incest and make those Banjo style games, proper sequels to Super Mario 64, Lylat Wars etc. The core fans of the system deserve it, they've waited long enough.

What do you think can be the next Wii? Motion controls have come and go. VR doesn't seem to be a huge hit for non-gamers. It's hard to say.

I was thinking Nintendo could learn from Pokemon Go and combine smartphones with consoles. I think there is some potential there. Animal Crossing for example is hugely popular among women so a smartphone AC app could help promote the NX.

Duck Hunt please with gun accessory

Paperboy also.  Kids today need to learn hard work.

A new duck hunt would be a fantastic party game plus a lot of nostalgia, would be 100% viral.

Hold on a second. Are you seriously suggesting that Nintendo should make an Animal Crossing app for smartphones?

Animal Crossing is hugely popular, and they should develop an app (not a main game obviously) for smartphones. Think something like Pokemon Go.
