Google also prioritizes sites that have mobile versions over the ones that don't. So that along with this = doomz

While I'm sure they are clever enough to know, a mobile version doesn't necessarily mean they aren't responsive. More people are moving to a responsive design based on browser width (which would actually solve a lot of issue this website has) instead of a dedicated mobile site.

Yea but Google themselves care about a mobile friendly site more so than anything and vgc isn't exactly what I would call responsive...

I don't know how I feel about Google using their market position to tell people how to run their websites. At least this time, the demand makes sense.

I think companies should be vehemently protective over their customers needs and use cases. In this case, Google should protect its users from undesirable sites; not based on content (i.e. censorship) but on user experience and threat (Google does warn you on on threats).

Though it would be good if their were more transparent. Meaning show the site if it should be upranked and add a warning under the name regarding its poor mobile capability and/or bad ad experience.

A website just asked me to install their App in order to have an access to rest of the content.

I hope Google starts punishing those sorts of behaviour as well
