Forums - Sony Discussion - [PS4 Slim] New DS4 uses same battery

According to shortman82, who also posted the Unboxing video of the slim ps4, the new DS4 uses the same battery so don't expect better battery life.

“New dualshock 4 model CUH-ZCT2E still has the same meagre 1000mah battery unfortunately.“

So much potential for a new Dual Shock 4 with paddle buttons, bigger battery....

If the controller uses less energy, the same battery can produce longer battery life.

Shit! Correct me if I am wrong but doesn't the new controller also have an extra light thing on top of the regular light thing?

People have said they've just made part of the touchpad transparent, so it's not an additional light, it's just the light that's already there shining through a previously opaque surface.

I've really not had a problem with battery life, It lasts a good 8-10 hours and when it says I'm running low I just plug it in and keep playing while it's charging, 30 mins later it's almost full charge again.

But it would have been nice to have a better battery inside the new model, as for some the current battery life is a problem.

No its just the touchpad part, has a transparent area, where light from below can come through.

It wont use any more power than the older DS4's afaik.

From the video, it looked like the big light on the back of the controller was not litting. It could indicate that only the smaller led will be active most fo the time, making the controller use less power. Probably the big led will only be activated when the controller needs to be tracked by the PS Camera.

Unfortunately, the video had quite a bit of external lightining, so it was hard to see the big led. If both lights are on all the time, it's more likely that the "new" led is just an opening that allows the light of the regular led to pass trough, so things would be the same.

It's rumoured to have a newer Bluetooth chip that could use less energy.

Mhmm I see. Hopefully that is the case. Both my xbox one and wiiU pro controller last a lot longer than the ps4 controller so I am hoping by the time I get the Neo, the controller will be revised with a great battery life.

I would like a 3000mAh battery, but ow well
