Forums - Sony Discussion - I'm playing Danganronpa... (My Progression)

...and it is one sick (you know what) of a ride.  Actually, I've only played through the first chapter, but they lay it on thick.  No holds barred.

For those who don't know, Danganronpa is what I'd consider a visual novel which portrays characters being forced down a psychological sadistical path to fight for their freedom out of a school that was turned into a psychological torture chamber.  At least that's what it appears to be so far.  I little fair warning if discussion goes indepth, there will be a lot of spoilers since the game is heavily story and detail oriented.  In other words:

SPOILERS! PROCEED AT YOR OWN RISK!!!

No game is perfect, and we are dealing with the realm of fantasy.  But in regards to the "motivation" DVDs, the events could have easily been more realistic to make the characters more relatable.  But I love the fact that at the end of the first chapter, it was clearly established that Monokuma is the enemy and not any of the students who were/will be driven to murder.  The school has been opened up more for exploration so I'll give an update as I progress.

The investigation for the second murder just opened up. Technically, there have been four deaths, but I'm referring to the second that was committed by a student. It's interesting building relationships with other characters, but you never know when someone is going to bite it.

Is this one of those games that's designed for multiple play troughs?

Glad to hear your enjoying it! It gets much more intense with every new chapter, don't get to attached to some characters...

It's definitely meant to be played once, although I believe there's a separate mode where you can interact with all the characters in the school without any of them dying. Kyoko is best girl.

I do think the dvd scene was done well, considering it's just to mess with their heads and question whether or not something like this really happened, while they were in the school and force them to take action.

You didn't spell Aoi right.

OT: As others had mentioned multiple playthroughs isn't really in the design.  There are certain events that can only happen if you have certain presents for people at certain times and such, but that is more of a pick the chapter and check it out kind of thing.

This game was awesome and such a suprise as when I played it a couple years ago I randoml picked it up and wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did.

Well specifically, Makoto saw a scene of his family's living room looking like it was hit by the apocalypse.  I would have preferred seeing police cars in the background with lights flashing as if his family was arrested or murdered.  And then there was Sayaka.  Just seeing her friends dead on stage was a bit of a cop out and was way too unrealistic.  Why not show them fraternizing with a rival pop lead singer that was to be Sayaka's replacement since she was missing from the group and trapped in the school?  Minor things, yes.  But those could have been easily reworked to make the characters more relatable.

And now there were ten. Five deaths so far. I was fairly impressed with the plot twist involving Chihiro. You're lead to believe that Byakuya committed the murder with VERY obvious clues. So it did seem like a cop out until it was revealed that it was purposely planned. And it wasn't Genocide Jack (or Jill). But my two questions are that how do the rest of the nine deal with a now known serial killer living amongst them while who or what is the shadowy figure that was talking to Monokuma? Don't answer that. Those were rhetorical questions.

Even if you were genuinely asking my response would be play and find out.  Anyone who would spoil pieces of this game is a human with no soul.

Well said.  Though it is your progression thread so those coming in not expecting you to spoil would be a bit foolish if you ask me.  I am more talking about the monsters who might come in here and tell you what you have yet to experience!  :)
