Forums - Gaming Discussion - So whats the point in the PS4s when PS4Neo is possibly launching next year?.

First Neo is releasing this year and will probably be at least 150$ more expensive that PS4 Slim.

To replace the original Ps4 and be the cheaper option for the consumers who don't want to buy the more expensive Neo. I do agree that its weird that people said the x1 slim is useless since both the ps4 slim and x1s serve the same purpose for the respective platforms

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

That's an interesting question OP. Hopefully those that called XboxOneS pointless can give you a logical answer.

But then (This is not my opinion btw) in the opinion of the people who said the XB1S was pointless. If PS4Neo is coming this year doesnt that make the PS4s even more of a pointless device??.

the point is that Sony will cut costs on the console, meaning they can lower the price while retaining a good profit.

also, it can give some leeway for people to accept the Neo more easily as a premium experience when the 'non premium' option is priced well below the Neo.

sounds reasonable?

You are always going to have poor reactions and threads from fans of specific manufacturers concerning hardware releases. It works both ways. Silly......but true.

I do not think that the Neo is going to releasing this year (opinion).

Similar to MS' plan with the XBOS the PS4 Slim will release with the original PS4 discounted to maintain/increase hardware sales until the Neo release next year.

That sounds perfectly fine to me. Like i said i understand the reason for both the PS4S and the XB1S. I just find it funny how easy people where saying what was the point of the XB1S when scorpio is coming next year.

can you name some of these people that fit into that description though? i personally am kind of down on the XB1S but only because according to MS all their games should now be playable on PC. So it literally makes the console useless to have for people like me.

is it possible that the reason why you noticed people questioning what the point was on the XB1S could be partially the one I just stated?

I'm sure some fanboyism probably exists, but sometimes it pays off to dig a bit deeper.

but hey, that's just my take on it

I dont know who said anything about things being necessary but to answer your question....

Options.

A lot of people dont care about 4k gaming or content or even have a 4k tv. And those people are way more than those that do care about stuff like that, and those that do care also probably have the money to afford it which means they are willing to pay more for a console.

Go as cheap as you can go for those that only can do 1080p and sell a premium console to those that can do 4k. eventually, the 1080p will upgrade to the 4k and yes.... they will still be buying your console.

The point will be new customers. Its gonna be cheap & still be 35-40% faster than the Xbox One & its slim.

Its for the people that just want to play the games, and dont care if they are playing the games in 4k.

I remember back when the XB1S was shown how a bunch of people here where claiming that its pointless since Scorpio will be releasing in 2017 (I think we even had a thread on it here??, im still looking for it so if anyone else has it please do post a link )

So now i ask do them same people still feel the same about the PS4S??.

Now clearly i myself know they both have a use. But id like to hear from the same people who where saying the was no point before how they now feel.

Although these seem like two sides of the same coin, the problem with direct comparison is that Sony still hasn't formally announced either the Slim or the Neo, let alone price point or release date. If Sony advertised the Slim as a sweet new upgrade for PS4 owners - and BTW, an even sweeter upgrade is coming next year....well, it'll be the same exact situation. Why bother with the slight upgrade now when you can do a proper upgrade later? I have a feeling Sony is going to approach things differently though, with Slim being merely the new vanilla PS4 in a minor announcement (or major, if it comes with a price cut) and the Neo being pushed for the holidays as the new hotness.

Isn't the answer logical?

- it's much cheaper to own a second system for your bedroom etc

- It's probably going to be the cheapest current gen console and still more powerful than its rival.

- it offers console VR set up at the cheapest possible price.

- The Neo is for a premium experience and those who might have a 4K TV or who wish to upgrade.

The vanilla PS4 will probably be slowly phased out leaving just the two systems.

The X1S and PS4S are trying to do different things. They have different goals. Sony has gone the traditional root of bringing the price down for the consumer and offering a smaller system. MS has gone with smaller system but a higher price due to 4K.

I see MS having more issues with this as primarily people buy consoles for gaming and the entry point will be far cheaper with a PS4 vanilla or PS4S. Hell it might even be possible for the Neo to priced the same or very similar to the X1S!
