Tbh, I didn't understand anything about the film. It was really beautiful and well directed (I really liked that "documentary" about life scene), but I just couldn't put all the pieces together. I still don't see the relation between all the film parts XD. But, yeah, I know a lot of people who really love the film, and some people hate it. It was always gonna be a very polarized reception.

To me, what Tree of Life was trying to show was: What makes us who we are? So naturally there is this whole universe creation scene, dynosaurs etc, to show where the whole species and our environment come from. Then the film zooms in on a specific individual, and shows how life events form that person, upbringing, major events etc. I think it's a terrific movie.

My favourite movie "The Man from Earth" is not on list.

I think The Lord of the Rings didn't make the list, because they are three movies, so the votes were split between the three movies, so none of them got enough votes by themselves.
Anyway I think most critics respect and enjoy The Lord of the Rings a lot. I also think they are terrific, but I could probably find 100 movies from this century I enjoy more.
Would have been nice to see them on the list though, since they are such a massive achievement. Much better than The Dark Knight for sure!

Very happy to see Melancholia there. One of my top 3 of all time for sure.

I'd swipe Lost in Translation with The Virgin Suicides, a much better Sofia Coppola movie.

I am also happy to see Mad Max in this list, why? Because it has become impossible for me to enjoy action movies, when most are generic and uninspired. I loved Mad Max though, it offered something unique and it mixed action with amazing scenery. Many mesmerizing scenes.

Her is another recent movie that I've enjoyed very much.

Glad super-hero garbage is no where to be scene. Even the highly rated ones are crap.

The Grand Budapest Hotel is a surprising inclusion, while the first half of this movie was probably one of the finest moments in movies history, the second half was so mediocre and completely dropped the ball. I can agree with The Royal Tenenbaums inclusion, but I definitely don't see how the Grand Budapest made it to the list.

Came back to check if "Only Lovers Left Alive" was included in the list, and oh my, it is! :)

A very good list indeed.

No no no no, don't make me agree with me, that's not right.

I know you don't like agreeing with yourself, so agree with me for a change.

Just another list filled with pretentious junk movies that are praised for their emotionally disturbed and morally perverted characters with unrealistic behaviour you never actually find in real life.

I don't enjoy it, threfore, it's pretentious.

Pretentious means someone is PRETENDING to enjoy those movies. That's simply not the case for most of us, we actually enjoyed some of those movies, for real, we did.

Hell, I don't agree with many of the movies that made the list, that was no reason for me to call it pretentious.
