Forums - Politics Discussion - How are white people supposed to feel about their own race?

White people should be proud for ending slavery after pretty much every single race of people have participated in it since before the biblical times.

I'm proud of my accomplishments and achievements. I'm happy with being my race (black) I wouldn't change it. But I don't really understand racial pride as it's not an achievement, or something you earned. You were born within a race and didn't have a choice, I don't understand the pride there.

BUT, I don't think that's what people mean when they have Black Pride, or Gay pride etc. It's more a situation of, people have tried to make me feel bad for being a certain way, and fuck you I'm happy with who I am.

So when people say white people shouldn't have white pride (it's wrong to say they shouldn't anyone has the right to be proud of their background) it's usually under the guise of, you haven't gone through what me and people who look like me went through whilst growing up, so you're saying this to try and belittle me.

There's only 2 races: White and 'Political Agenda'
2 Genders: Male and 'Political Agenda'
2 Hairstyles for female characters: Long and 'Political Agenda'
2 Sexualities: Straight and 'Political Agenda'

Ended slavery? Tell that to Asia.

White people should feel proud for ending slavery, but should they feel shame for fighting the end of slavery? This is where this kind of logic fails.

Ending of slavery should be credited to the people that lobbied for it to end and fought for it to end.

Your thoughts on what I posted.

What, precisely, are you even saying?  Does a person have to be directly involved with the success to feel proud of that success?

No, they don't have to be directly involved but surely an involvement greater than just having matching skin tones would be ideal.

Tell me, do you not celebrate when your team wins?

Yes, I do.

I don't know. I feel lucky to be white tbh.

It's not that difficult to grasp, someone growing up a certain way and being made to feel like they're not as good, or bad or worthless can have a very negative impact on someone.

And then seeing someone with that same thing, wether it be skin tone, disability, social awkwardness, being a nerd etc succeed. You feel proud of their success and relate to it on a personal level.

It's psych 101 man

Edit: I had a really short hispanic friend growing up. And Rey Mysterio was his god. xD

I can understand people relating to other people who are successful, sure. Collective racial pride itself is nonsense. No one ever put any work towards being born into the skin tone they were born into. People being proud of their skin color is silly. An achievement that requires zero effort.

People only feel pride in their race/orientation/disability when others make them feel like they should feel bad for it.

I drink water a lot. But if a large group of people around me was telling me how awful I am for drinking water, and I'm worth less because of it. I'd think, "Fuck you, I like drinking water and proud of it, bitch"

Silly example but I hope the idea came across..

Then you should be proud of the fact that you continue drinking water despite the pressure around you, not at the fact that you drink water.

When they look in the mirror and recognize their race, what are the correct and acceptable feelings white people should feel towards their own race?

Do you believe white people cannot feel pride about their own race without that pride implying racism?

Is pride in your own race only ok when that pride comes from being a minority and being an oppressed race?

How do you think white people should feel about their own race?

When a black person in the US or a Jewish person in Germany celebrates pride in their race, it's because they were hugely oppressed for being that race. If a white person shows pride for being white in either nation, they are being a racist dick, because racially motivated things that whites did in the US and Germany are enslaving black people, killing natives, and attempting to exterminate Slavs and Jewish people.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.
