Forums - Sony Discussion - Ps4 slim will come with 4k video support?

This makes the most sense. They have to definitively define PS4 for the Neo. So I also think PS4 2000 will be a super bare bones PS4 for the kids, parents, and casual gamers with 1080p TV's. Neo is going to be marketed as the ultimate 4K devices, so far that they may just end up call it the PS4K with the 4K being the 4K symbol you see on all 4K product from Sony.

It's so obvious I can't see the confusion I'm reading around the forums. MS don't have the same problem because their 'legitimate' 4K console isn't coming until the end of next year.

By the way, the trade in value for a PS4 at Gamestop went down from $200 to $150 recently.

Doubt it, I think this is going to be a budget ps4 that will be sold alongside the Neo. It'll be launched at a price cut, it won't have features over the original, but it'll also be cheaper than the original.

$249/$299 launch price.

No, but you can unlock 4K video with this special cheat code:

Take $400 to your local game store and say "I'll take that PS4 Neo please". That unlocks 4K video.

^ this.

I think sonys only priority with their slim, was to make it cheap.

This is going to launch at 249$ a price MS probably wont follow with their slim, because they choose to put extra stuff in it (4k blu ray, HDR).

If you want 4k & HDR, and 4.2-5.0 teraflops of performance, Sony has that Neo to sell you instead.

I'm not talking about games. X1 S has full 4k video playback and HDR. Is this new ps4 slim adding support for 4k streaming and BD and HDR or this will only come with Neo? Hardware wise I don't see much reason why not adding this support. The only thing missing for ps4 be able to display 4k is a compatible HDMI output and in case of BD an updated laser cannon.

The Playstation 4 already can already technically output at 4k. It has the HDMI port to do it, albeit you would be limited to 30fps/hz.
The Blu-Ray drive is the real kicker though.

For the PS4 Slim to have 4k/60hz and HDR, they will likely need to respin the PS4 silicon and update various library's to include that support in conjunction with a new Blu-Ray drive.

It's entirely possible that is the path they are taking, but we will need to wait on Sony for confirmation.

Thus far the Xbox One S is a media-power house that the Playstation can't match at the moment (HDR, 4k, Codec/File support/NTFS, Audio Discs etc'), doubt Sony will allow Microsoft to beat it on features for too long.

Considering how deep Sony has its finger in that Bluray pie, I would be pretty fucking surprised if it didn't. Especially since they haven't released a 4K BR player yet.

Well they where also late in getting the first standalone (non PS3) Blu ray player on the market since the first Blu ray player on the market was the Samsung BD-P1000 which was first available in June 2006.

I'm hoping it does. Would make sense for it to. However by not including it it would 1) make the console significantly cheaper to produce/sell and 2) make the Neo even more enticing to enthusiasts. That way there are two distinct products for the market catering to two extremes. All evidence points to no 4k playback but we shall see. Does the Xbox One S have any indications of 4k playback on the console itself??

Not on the front of the box not sure about the back.  But every describiton of it on retail websites mentions that its capable of 4K video steaming and that it has a UHD ray player.

Yeh... I'm thinking it would say HDR or 4K Blu Ray somewhere on the console itself(the Xbox One S) much like the PS4 says Dolby/DVD/5.1 etc on it.

Well just watched a unboxing video of the Xbox One S on the console itself it doesn't mention that it does HDR and 4K streaming and that it has a UHD Blue ray player it does mention its 4K capabilities on the side of the box though.

They would definitely want to advertise the 4k playback externally for sure. I'm still hoping the PS4 slim has 4K playback but I think it would say HDR/UHD Blu Ray on the console near the other logos on the side??
