Didn't that happen ages ago?

They sold majority of it, when the Nintendo representetive guy stepped down but kept I think 10%, this should be the 10%.

lol, no.  A baseball team is not worth $6 billion.

THey announced they  were seling earlier.  Now they have announced they have actually sold, and for how much.

Oh, that makes sense, so they still own the 10%?

Next time I will click the article and read the contents, ya you are right, and they still own the 10%. (I just thought the OP carried over the important parts).

Damn - last gen Sony was selling buildings.

Now this gen - Nintendo is selling sports teams.

You know what they say "desperate times call for desperate measures".

But Im sure Nintendo can come back like Sony.

Well te best thing to come out of that baseball team was Ken Griffey Jr Baseball lol

Shame they never made more baseball games that didn't involve mario.

661 million dollars!? Wow, that's a lot. How profitable was that team anyway?

You know it deserves the GOTY.

The Mariners recently signed a deal with a network for TV rights.  This is the main reason why the Mariners value jumped so high in recent years.  Not sure what they made on a year to year basis but they did spend ~100 million to acquire 55% stake in 1992.  Right now their 10% of remainder stake is worth more than their initial investment of 100 million to acquire 55%.  I'd say in the long run it was a good investment.

Good decision. Those losers didn't win a single Stanley Cup in the last 30 years.

In 2001 they tied the 1906 Cubs for most wins in a season which then brought a curse onto them.  I'm sure that Stanley Cup comment was just a joke considering that is hockey.

Yamauchi owned a 55% share of the Seattle Mariners team.  In 2004, Yamauchi transferred ownership of the Seattle Mariners to Nintendo of America.

Nintendo of America has now sold 45% of the Team for $661 Million and is retaining a 10% share of the Team, that means the Team was using a valuation of around $1.47 Billion.
