Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo Says It’s Looking To Appeal To Both Causal And Core Gamers With NX

I don't use alt accounts (unlike a certain someone AHEM ZERO, lmao), if I want to say something I'll say it, I don't care if it's a popular opinion or not. And cancelling the NX at this point? LOL, that's not gonna happen, Nintendo is too stubborn to do something like that even if the response to it is incredibly negative.

I don't think it's DOA either, I think it'll sell well enough, maybe not light the world on fire, but 40-50 million units should be doable (of course it could be a bit lower or considerably higher too if the stars align well for Nintendo).

Cancel NX? lololololol who said anything like that?

Did you even read the post you quoted?

Its not so much that it didnt have games aimed at "core" is that it had a LOT more games NOT aimed at the "core". Nothing wrong with that, it is what it is, but lets not pretend like it was equal. It wasnt even close. The games are usual inferior to other versions if they came at all and it still missed KEY core titles, like Elder Scrolls, Assassins Creed and GTA

I dont see how that really changes anything. If a console has 25 games that appeal to you than why does it matter if it also has 50 games that dont appeal to you?

but thats my point it DOESNT have games that appeal to me, at least not that much, all those games I mentioned appealed to me and were not on Ninty systems, among many others that never made it to the system and if they did they were much worse versions, which who would want to play that if they have and option to not to? You cant just put "open world game number 371" on the system like its a subsitute for missing GTA IE. Thats not how it works and thats not what people will respond to. And I know im not the only one who feels that way, the sales for the software and home consoles speak for themselves, as for the games I didnt want IE the shovelware nothing wrong with that but to pretend like those games didnt dominate that system is straight lying.

I'd say Nintendo should be focused more on having games for the NX than trying to appeal to anyone.

Ok, since when were we talking about your personel preferences?

Your original statement was that Wii had more casual games than it had core games, im saying that really shouldnt matter to anyone smart enough to make an informed opinion of their own.

If someone is interested in Fire Emblem, Monster Hunter, Xenoblade, MadWorld, Fatal Frame, Conduit, No More Heroes, etc. than what difference does it make that Wii also had games like Just Dance, Carnival Games, Zumba Fitness, Big Brain Academy, etc?

Look back at my original post that you quoted, i never said anything about Wii having more core games than casual games, my whole point was that the popular opinion that Wii lacked core games is nothing more than a myth.

It lacked the popular core games of its day. Call of Duty was not the "real" Call of Duty on other platforms, no Assassin's Creed, no Elder Scrolls, no GTA, etc. etc.

For a system that sold 100 million units I think there's only three total million-selling "core audience" games on the Wii from third parties -- Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition, Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles, and I think COD3 just got over 1 million. Maybe Red Steel too? Oh wait there was Monster Hunter Tri.

Grand Theft Auto V on the XBox 360 alone may have sold more than every "core" third party game on the Wii, lol, it wouldn't shock me. There was a relatively small market for non-Mario/Zelda "core" games on the Wii ... Metroid Prime 3, Xenoblade, Sin & Punishment 2, The Last Story, etc. probably all would've sold about the same on the GameCube.

How does any of that have relate to what i said?

You and Oniyide are awful about doing this, you dont actually respond to what people say and go off on your own tangents.

The fact that casual games sold better than core games on Wii or that core games sold better on PS3/360 is absolutely irrelevant.

cant do that if eurogamer stuff is true. will be interesting to see what route really ends up being. hopefully we find out in september like rumored

"Core" portable gamers and some "casual" smartphone users, sure. That binary is incredibly reductive, but I expect it's indicative of a strategy that will prioritise a low price point from day one, more Nintendo software, more often, and an emphasis on a mixture of third party support that'll capture family friendly stuff from the Western publishers (Skylanders, Lego, Just Dance) and core stuff from Japanese publishers (Dragon Quest, Monster Hunter etc).

I wouldn't be surprised if there are NX games that only utilise the touchscreen and gyro (perhaps an inbuilt launch title from Nintendo), and I also think there's a good chance Nintendo will have their smartphone games available on NX, too. The strategy will be to capture a large mobile audience, and convert a percentage of them into NX owners, while relying on their core audience for high software sales (and therefore decent profit margins if an expanded audience product falters) for franchises like Zelda etc.

Basically this, the hybrid/unified setup would allow for Nintendo to put all their software on a single platform while also having solid support from Japanese, indie & kid/family software.

Its not meant to compete with PS/XB for "core" gamers or iOS/Android for "casual" gamers, its meant to be an in between device that can appeal to both sides and isnt meant to replace those other devices.

I would really like to hear what makes you come to that conclusion.
